Free Music Notes for My LifeFree Music Review: I won't dive into a full fledge review. Hit: 5 StarsIt has been a very long time since I reviewed a R&B album. I just want to add my thoughts on this great CD, a great singer, and to me a great person because I met her a few times.
The album does rely heavy on samples. But those samples to me, paired up with Mary's voice and charisma made this album into an instant classic. I won't point out standout tracks. Only my favorites. Happy, My Life, Mary's Joint, I'm going down, and I never wanna live without you. I like the whole album but those get the most spins.
Free Music Review: One star taken for heavy reliance on samples, but still her best album by far Hit: 4 StarsThough she has recorded a number of albums since, this is Mary J. Blige's most solid and consistent effort to date. Her voice is at its gritty best, especially on the title track and her superior cover of Rose Royce's "I'm Going Down." "Be Happy" has always been one of her catchiest, most upbeat songs. I wish she wouldn't have sampled for it (or for the title track), but I will forgive that in this case since I grew up loving the songs long before I ever knew what the whole sampling thing was. One blemish on this album, however is her "semi-cover" of "All Night Long" by The Mary Jane Girls, on which she makes some slight lyrical adjustments resulting in a more sexually explicit version of the song. Overall, though, if you could have only one Mary J. album, this should be it.
Free Music Review: if u don't own My Life yet, buy it now!!! Hit: 5 Starsthis is indeed MJBs BEST album!!! i had no idea so many others shared this sentiment...every track on the album just grooves straight into the next and there is so much feeling in it...it brings me to tears sometimes when i feel i can relate...an absolute must-have for any music lover.
Free Music Review: The best of Mary's music Hit: 5 StarsOf all her CD's, this one has to be the best and that's not putting the others down in any way. My Life had less street edge than What's the 411, but the CD showed so much growth of maturity. She put her heart and soul into and you can feel the emotion whether she was happy or sad. I remember right before this CD came out, i was wondering how was she going to top the first one and i am glad to say, there was no let down with this one. I have been a big fan since the debut, but this still remains my favorite Mary J. Blige CD.
Free Music Review: Awesome Hit: 5 StarsThis is the CD to have. I LOVE this CD. Huge Mary J fan.
