Even though now this cd is old, it's still a favourite of mine. That's probably because Old School music while is dated, doesn't date (if you know what I mean). I dug it up again last week and have played it as many times now as I used to. Mary's Joint is my personal favourite on here followed by I Love You. She's a timeless singer who is probably even better now then back here (and just think how good this is). She's talented, raw and honest and a must listen to for any RnB and Hip Hop fan. I am not kidding this album is that good! I loved Mary J Blige from the first notice of her. But I never got any of her albums until much later in her career. I 1st bought Mary, then Whats the 411, and then My Life. My Life is hailed by most Mary fans and critics as her best work ever. I have to agree. While her debut got the worlds attention with her blonde hair, jacket, sunglasses and street swagger it was My Life that kept people listening.
Mary reinvented herself here. She sings about deep emotional pain and her Cd is very moody. Ranging from Desperate Love songs, Gotta leave my man songs, and I have got a good love songs. Mary adds much old school R&B and soul to this album which makes My Life timeless.
Mary's vocals are very good here and shows pain very well.
From the opening cuts Mary Jane and You bring me Joy to the last song Be Happy- Mary takes you on a personal journey through her life.
I can't believe Puffy produced this! It is the best Cd i have along with MIss Thing, Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, and Aaliyah.
My favs: Mary Jane,You gotta believe, Never wanna live without you, Be with you, Mary's joint, all of her singles.... damn thats about the whole Cd! Well you get my point! Look at the used Cd's, they aren't even cheap and this cd is 11 years old. That is the timeless value of this disc.
Pick this up if you haven't already. I still constantly play this to this day!

What else can I say that hasn't already been said? When I listen to this album, I have so many memories of "my life" during that time. The good and the bad. It seems as though all of Mary's songs echoed my emotions and the things that I was going through at that time. This is probably the only album that I can listen to all the way through without skipping any songs. I don't care who comes after Mary, she will ALWAYS be the QUEEN. I have been in love with Mary J. Blige ever since i saw the video for reminisce. This is my favorite cd that she has ever made. It is the perfect mix of her own soul flava and hip hop. Favorite songs on the cd are My Life, ALl night long, you gotta believe, going down, and don't go. These are no where near the only good songs, just the songs i chose as first. Mary, keep doing your thing, and for anybody who doesn't have this cd, you NEED to add this to your collection, it has something for everybody.
