What can I say about Mary J. Blige's sophomore effort, that hasn't been said. My Life was truly defining moment for her as an artist, as she tore down the walls and pretense and exposed her feelings to the world. Not an easy thing to do, as most artist or people for that matter leave the scary feelings locked up. When this album was released in 1994, the song that spoke most to me was the title track "My Life" - and the same holds true eleven years later. Mary's sophomore album; "My Life" was a hit not only with critics but with me also. I can say for sure that I enjoyed every song on the album. Song after song just seemed to fall into the right place, every thing seemed in order. You can feel Mary's pain in songs like, "My Life", "Be Happy", etc. Then she has the songs that you can dance to. This album also features Keith Murray. One of my favorites on the album is "I Never Wanna Live without you"; you can hear Faith Evans singing back-up on this song and on this album. All of these songs have a great beat that goes with the lyrics and something that touches you. If you ask me you should pick-up all four of Mary Jane Blige's first albums. Mary J Blige's second album ranks as one of her best. Mary was very personal with this album, it's very dark and raw in emotion, and the grooves are tight. The title track to me is the most personal song on here, and maybe the flagship of the album in terms of what it's about. A lot of songs deal with ideas of love lost such as "I Never Wanna Live Without You", "I'm Goin Down", "Don't Go", etc. Ohterh ighlights include "I Love You", "Be Happy", "You Bring Me Joy", "No One Else" and "I'm The Only Woman". I love Mary, but this is the best of ALL her albums in my opinion. The title track MY LIFE is my favorite on this CD. There are many other hot tracks on this album. If you love Mary, you may need to cop this CD A.S.A.P.
