I want to say that Laura Michelle Kelly is not Julie Andrews. I hate when people judge a actor/actress who recreating a role. I didn't hear anyone complain when Michael Ball stared in CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG or when Julie Andrews played Maria in the movie of THE SOUND OF MUSIC when Mary Martin played Maria on stage. I would not want Laura Michelle Kelly to be carbon copy of Dame Andrews. She brings a different spin of Mary Poppins. They changed the character of Mary Poppins for the movie. She is much stricter in the books and on stage. Which means that she is not going to exactly the ways she was in the movie.
Of course they changed some of the meanings of songs but with the added songs it doesn't really matter. With these new songs, they give the characters added depth. I never get bored listening to this cast recording.
