Free Music Review: Why can't you give them 6, 7, 8, 9, 10+ stars?

Although harder to get acquainted with than "Yourself or Someone Like You", this album is completely wonderful. The album on a whole is more somber and sad, and less rock-oriented, but it still is that same old good music we're all used to hearing from R, K, A, B, and P. The best songs on the cd are "Crutch", "Last Beautiful Girl", and "Leave". Let's run through the track listing. 1: "Angry"- although there isn't a single bad song on the cd, this is a disappointing beginning. The lyrics aren't particularly moving, the music is too harsh yet almost ballad-like, and Kyle and Adam add loads of background vocals where they aren't needed. (Don't get me wrong- Kyle's voice is as good as Rob's is.) 2: "Black & White People"- this song is, well...strange. When i first bought this cd, i thought this song was awful. That's becuz i HATE horns, and they play throughout the song. But, now i have come to love it, and it should be a top contestant for the next single. 3: "Crutch"- one of the best songs on the cd. Some people criticize it as a "filler", or Rob trying to "rap", but it is an extremely catchy (quirky) song. 4: "Last Beautiful Girl"- undoubtedly the #1 best song on the cd. It is, as the title suggests, beautiful. It is up-beat, fast paced, and almost loud, but deep down it is really a ballad. The lyrics are really great (...it's over now and i've gone without 'cuz you're everyone else's girl and it seems to me you'll always be everyone else's girl...). Kyle is great on the "chorus echos", and Adam's rhythm guitar for the verses has a great line. MB20's best song since "Kody" and "Back 2 Good". 5: "If You're Gone"- everybody knows this song, so i don't think i have to say too much about it. (It is great, of course.) 6: "Mad Season"- The title track, here the guys just seem to be having fun. Definately rock, but still with that 'I'm Rob Thomas i'm not going to write a single song that does not make you feel sorry for me or you or yourself or someone like you [hahaha]' factor. Ya gotta love how "Mad Season" has depressing lyrics, but the song is still uplifting. 7: "Rest Stop"- previously a bside before this album was released. It is a sad, beautiful, orchestrated song, that Rob insists is 100% true. 8: "The Burn"- not great, but it still evokes a smile every time i hear it. It starts with "hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hooing"-a great song opening. The best part of the song is the interlude. (Can someone tell me what Rob sings in the interlude? It sounds like "Holy mother of god" or somethin' like that.) It is probably the shortest song on the cd, only about 3 and a quarter minutes. It tastes like a nice sugar-coated lemon on a sunny, early September day. 9: "Bent"- y'all know it, y'all know it's good. 10: "Bed Of Lies"- i wanna follow suit with all the other reviews and say it sounds like "Dear Joan" by Tabitha's Secret. Only probably is i'm getting "Don't Play With Matches" for Christmas, so i can't even say i have HEARD "Dear Joan". Anyway, the song is kinda angsty, yet tranquilizing at the same time. The drums and rhythm guitar stand out on this song. This song is a great song to listen to before bedtime, it gets ya really sleepy. 11: "Leave": A beautifully orchestrated song. The lyrics and music are very turbulent. Probably the softest song on the cd. An MB20 classic. 12: "Stop": This one cracks you up. The "oddest and hardest song" on the cd. It is not exactly friendly, nor is it exactly satsifying. It is a good song, but if you want some MB20 metal that is appealing to your ears, then go back and listen to "Busted" or geo online and get the "you and i and i" live track. 13: "You Won't Be Mine"- not very MB20esque, it is a completely untraditional song, but it still is a good close to the album. The song sounds somewhat chaotic (? was that the right word- turbulent, angry) for being a ballad. Rob is a great piano player. Right, so if you loved the first MB20 cd, this is definately the cd for you. Although different in many ways, it still has the same sound that YOSLY had. Thank you for taking time to read this review, it is way too long. If you suddenly have an urge to go jump on an iceberg and float out to sea, consult me first.
