Free Music Notes for Songs We SingFree Music Review: Best album I bought last year Hit: 5 StarsI bought dozens and dozens of CDs last year and Costa's Songs We Sing was my favorite acquisition. If you're enjoying that trendy, troubadour sound of barefoot, pensive guys strumming their accoustic guitars to licks that hook you, this is as upbeat, clear, and good-mood-provoking as they come. A friend and peer of Jack Johnson's, Costa is coming into his own a bit less produced (very welcome, indeed!). His melodies stick with you. I'm looking forward to more great stuff from Costa.
Free Music Review: # 1 Costa fan in Vegas Hit: 5 StarsI happened upon Cold December and bought Songs We Sing. I can't stop listening to it! I love (and know by heart) every song. All my friends are getting this album for Christmas, and I think I want to marry Matt Costa ;)
I would try to compare to other groups/artists - but really it is too original (unlike the vibe you get from the Amazon review) and this album deserves an objective listen - just get it!
Free Music Review: Catchy without losing his heart Hit: 4 StarsThese songs are catchy. Real catchy. He writes how he feels and those just happen to be really good songs. "Sunshine" burrows a hole into your memory and leaves you a nice gift. Not a bad song on the album. He channels some Johnny Cash, keeps it light with "Sweet Rose" and makes you wish for winter time with "Cold December."
If he ever steps away from the "surfer, skateboarder dudes can record an album full of good songs" and actually put together a conceptual album where all the songs relate to one another, then he will be a surfer on his own wave.
Free Music Review: Good Stuff Hit: 3 StarsMatt Costa has got the talent and chops and this CD is enjoyable. He does need to break the mold a bit, however. There is nothing earth-shattering here - - just good folk/pop that is nice on the ears. Next time, I hope he tires to be a bit more original.
Free Music Review: Costa/Johnson? Hit: 5 StarsI have read some reviews comparing Matt Costa to Jack Johnson. The two artists are not comparable. Each has their own style independent of the other. "Songs We Sing" is an excellent album, an instant favorite.
