Free Music Notes for In ReverseFree Music Review: Don't Believe the Lack of Hype... Hit: 5 StarsJudging by its pathetic debut near the bottom of the Billboard 200, _In Reverse_ obviously does not seem high on the record label's priority list. (Sweet has two gold records, you know!) I bemoan this more than usual because _In Reverse_ may be Sweet's finest hour. _Blue Sky on Mars_ was largely a smudgy and meandersome mess with a couple of minor gems; this record bears very little in common with it. "If Time Permits" and "Thunderstorm" are the two best examples of the Spectorian production techniques that you've read about. I would go so far as to say that this one even trumps _Girlfriend_, long held up as Sweet's unassailable masterpiece. Among Sweet's albums, only this one and _100% Fun_ avoid the occasional spottiness that seems inherent in a style that aims for pop bliss in three-minute packages. Oh, and "Faith In You" rocks.Don't let the lack of radio and MTV play dissuade you- _In Reverse_ is phenomenal.
Free Music Review: By any other name would smell as sweet Hit: 4 StarsI keep hoping for something more like A.Beast, but I guess it ain't gonna happen. This is a good record but very few I've heard match the naked emotional intensity and pop sensibility of A.Beast.
Free Music Review: Matthew Sweet at his best! Hit: 5 StarsI have been a long time Matthew Sweet fan and to be honest I really wasn't expecting much from this album. Most of the late 90's music has a been there done that kind of feel to it but Sweet definetily sets himself apart with all of his music, especially this masterpiece of an album. There is simply no other artist to compare this style of music to. I would recommend this album to anyone tired of the same old alteranteen one hit wonder bands played repeditively on the radio. Keep up the good work Matthew.
Free Music Review: It Grows On You Hit: 5 StarsThe more I listen, the more I love it. This album is like a musical time capsule of the best of pop of the last half of the century...perfect way to start the new millenium. "Hide" and "If Time Permits" are my current favorites, but that'll change as I let it seep in to my soul, where the other MS albums live...
Free Music Review: Redefines 90s pop Hit: 5 StarsI hardly ever write reviews, but this time I just can't keep quiet. Matthew Sweet offers up the most blazingly original album of the year, and without the backing of Richard Lloyd and Robert Quine. I guess it goes to show all the doubters that he could do it on his own.
