Free Music Notes for Phantom: The American Musical Sensation (1992 Studio Cast)

Free Music Review: Wow
Hit: 5 Stars

Who ever would have thought that some thing with so many versions of it could have more than one incredible version? This musical is spectacular! Especially good since the ALW version is right up there. This one should get the same amount of credit. The cast is also incredible. Definetly worth buying.

Free Music Review: a must for any phantom phan
Hit: 4 Stars

i am probably one of the biggest lloyd webber phantom phans you could meet. i love the story so much i decidid to go out and buy kopit and yeston's version without know a thing about it. much to my amazment i loved it, it was wonderful. it is completly different from weber's version. you really get to know the phantom so much more with this version. this is a true musical, not a borderline opera like it's megamusical counterpiece. it has a very touching side to it, kind of a beauty and the beast quality. and as a coincidence the man who plays the phantom (Richard White) is the voice of Gaston in Disney's Beauty and the beast. i also enjoyed how they made Carlotta into more of a comical character in this version instead of a stuck up diva. there are all different styles of songs on this recording, but it is lacking it's own...uhh... i hate to say it, music of the night. all in all this is a grea recording.

Free Music Review: Amazingly different tale
Hit: 5 Stars

Being a huge fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Phantom," I listened to the Kopit and Yeston version with more than trepidation. I figured I'd breeze through the songs with indifference, hoping to catch one or two good pieces that might stand out. Well, to my great surprise, the entire CD completely captivated me! From the upbeat "Melodie de Paris" to the heartbreaking "You are my Own," I was MESMERISED. This version, while definately a variation of Gaston Leroux's novel "The Phantom of the Opera," is also wonderfully unique. It allows us to see and experience what drives the characters of this story forward. This is truly a credit to the "fathers" of this work (Kopit and Yeston) and to the wonderful singers. This is definately a "Phantom" to look for, listen to, and cherish!

Free Music Review: Sensational !
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the best recording I have ever heard. It is much better than the Lloyd Webber version. From the opening number to the end you are amazed by the singing and the music. You must hear this!

Free Music Review: Nothing special
Hit: 3 Stars

It's a shame that you can't really talk about this score without comparing it with "The" Phantom of the Opera, the ubiquitous Andrew Lloyd Webber version of the same thing. Dramatically, that show is far superior - there is a through-composed, overwhelming theatricality to it, which surprisingly enough is preserved on its CD. This show, on the other hand, is an old fashioned chop-and-drop operetta deal, which although more heartfelt than the slick, ultra-professional Lloyd-Webber version, just doesn't stack up. Musically, they're really equal; this Phantom isn't as well-developed as Lloyd-Webber's, but it isn't as heartless; both have their share of catchy tunes. All in all, this one really isnt worth it. (Don't get me wrong, im no Lloyd-Webber devotee, but his is just better.)
