Free Music Notes for We'll Never Turn BackFree Music Review: One of my favorite recent purchases Hit: 5 Stars
I buy a lot of music along the blues, rock, and folk genres. I am a huge Ry Cooder fan and purchased this CD largely because of Cooder's contributions. Once I listened to the CD though, I was blown away. What a fantastic selection of songs and wonderfully performed and produced. Of the dozens of CDs I have purchased this year, this one ranks right up near the top. If you are thinking of getting it, do it.
Free Music Review: Passion and soul Hit: 5 Stars
Mavis Staples sings with passion and true soul the songs of the Civil Rights movement on "We'll Never Turn Back". The CD has all the sounds of a great Ry Cooder CD too because he did arrangements of many of the songs and he plays on them too. This CD's version of "This Little Light of Mine" shows what can be done respectfully to bring a whole new sound to an old song. This CD really deserves 5 stars.
Free Music Review: I can't get enough Hit: 5 Stars
I saw Mavis a few years back with Taj Mahal. Maybe it was last year. She was the opening act, and being just 23 at the time I was unfamiliar with her music. What a discovery she has been for me... I am absolutely in love with this last album. Ry Cooder did a masterful job producing this one. Get it and listen to it over and over again. I know I can't stop listening.... its sooo powerful.
Free Music Review: Profound and Moving Hit: 5 Stars
Mavis Staples has a voice unlike any other -- one that will give you chills, bring tears to your eyes, and inspire you. This is one of the best albums ever: powerful songs of the struggle for freedom and dignity sung with profound soul and brought up to date with a great backing band. Mavis is at the top of her form, and music doesn't come any better than that.
Free Music Review: Mavis Staples and Ry Cooder - a great CD Hit: 5 Stars
This is a great CD. The music of the Civil Rights movement is introduced in a stirring anthology which should be listened to in every history, social studies and music class in schools across this nation. This CD brings our shared history together, and reaches us in our souls.
