Free Music Review: New Mayday is terrific

I really enjoy this CD a lot. Like others I wasn't sure what to expect after the departure of an important member of the band, but was really pleasantly surprised. To be sure it is different than the last Mayday CD, but in a good way I think. It is true that the lyrics aren't as deep and brooding as Lesson in Romantics, but I don't find I need that. What we get instead ranges from incredibly catchy and infectious pop songs (Kids in Love, Bruised and Scarred, Get Up), to dark (The Silence), to slow wonderful ballads (I Swear This Time I Mean It).
The music and instrumentation are terrific. The CD is tight and well performed and the songs are melodic. The vocals are spot on. The vocals are different because we no longer have the dual vocals that were so prominent on the previous CD. For me, though, I had grown tired of the fakey, twangy accent laced vocals of the departing singer. Some folks equate all that with emotion, I didn't. I find the vocals here to be more honest and less pretentious.
Anyway, one of the other reviews talked about these songs as flat and stale. I couldn't disagree more.
Terrific CD by a terrific band. I know you'll enjoy it.

After selling over 130,000 copies of their 2007 Fearless Records debut full length album 'A Lesson In Romantics', over 35,000 copies sold of 'Tales Told By Dead Friends' EP, and non stop touring with bands such as All Time Low, The Maine, Metro Station, and others while on the 2008 Vans Warped Tour; Mayday Parade is gearing up for their major label debut on Fearless/Atlantic Records with the release of 'Anywhere But Here' on October 6th.
