Free Music Review: Sultry, smoky r & b/soul over smooth jazz grooves and feel good lyrics
Hit: 4 Stars

Since this is my first Maysa album I read many of the other listener's glowing reviews first so that I may offer something different to the collection of opinions. Most strikingly Maysa's voice resembles the legendary Roberta Flack, as well as Anita Baker, and Lalah Hathaway. Track 5 (Where Do You Go?) sounds like a song that could have been on a Julie Dexter album, and if you aren't familiar with her, she is another fine jazz vocalist with a more Diana Ross range rather than the alto of Maysa. You will be reminded of Luther Vandross on track 7 and
10 (All day Long and One More Chance)not only in the instrumental track but in Maysa's vocal phrasing. The latter half of the album swings very much toward contemporary r & b and many of the background tracks sound like samples and loops you may have heard from some other artist on some other album. Overall many of the songs sound similar in arrangement and theme, but Maysa fans, don't be furious, if it wasn't for her gloriously rich vocals, I would not have listened so many times to rate this album one star below the highest rating. Regardless, you will find this a good album and love many of the songs, without a doubt!

Free Music Review: A Great Talent On The Rise
Hit: 4 Stars

With a hypnotic mixture of r&b and smooth jazz.Singer, songwriter Ms.Maysa Leak comes at you and just takes you away with a secial style all her own.Her voice is wonderful and smooth and on top of that she's beautiful. This lady is loaded with talent. And she seems to have great musical taste.Something that seems to be lacking in some other young female singers of this generation.I'm very much impress with this album and I listen to it a lot. With songs like Unexpectedly,Hypnotic Love,One More Chance,Smooth Sailing and Where Do You Go?.Is what makes this album such a standout. And I plan on buying a lot more Maysa albums in the future.

Free Music Review: (3.5 stars) Maysa Sails On With Latest Release!
Hit: 3 Stars

Maysa has been one of those artist who has been constantly looked over when you go to the store and look in the music racks. Yes, she's the artist who you'd typically say "I've never heard of her" and yet you probably have heard her. She was once the female vocalist in the jazz fusion group Incognito. She was the voice behind songs like "Deep Waters" and "Still A Friend Of Mine" for all you jazz listeners out there. She has had four solo albums, the first three being the self-titled album Maysa, All My Life, and Out Of The Blue respectively. Now she returns with another jazz-influenced album entitled Smooth Sailing.

The first single from the album is the title track "Smooth Sailing," a good representation of what the rest of the album sounds like. "Scat World" features her alongside another relatively unknown songstress named Ledisi. The best song on the disc hands down is "All Day Long" with solid background singers and top notch production that few others are able to manage to get for their own songs. This same style is continued on the song "Where Have You Been" and "One More Chance." But there is some fun elements as well on songs like "So Very Hot" and "Hypnotic."

Although not her best work, Maysa still proves that she is the best at what she does. But even though her songs sound overtly R&B, she is usually placed in the genre that most appreciates her....Smooth Jazz. Despite the flip-flopping of categories, Maysa is hands down a wonderful vocalist and Smooth Sailing is a voyage that you can still enjoy without getting seasick.
