Free Music Notes for The Very Best of Meat Loaf

Free Music Review: Excellent, but missing a ton of stuff
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the best of Meat Loaf, all right. From Bat Out Of Hell to Midnight At The Lost And Found (off of the "horrible" album that "only" got about four hits off of it) to Modern Girl to Objects In The Rear View Mirror to Not A Dry Eye In The House, crammed onto two CDs along with three new songs, especially the two best ones Meat has done yet, Is Nothing Sacred and A Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste. You won't be disappointed by the quality of songs that Meat's got on here.

However, you WILL be disappointed at the quanity. With only 9 tracks per CD, Meat has alot of stuff missing from this collection. Although it doesn't hurt my score any, some of the many missing from this that could've been included in this greatest hits CD inlcudes:
BAT OUT OF HELL: All Revved Up With No Place To Go, For Crying Out Loud
DEAD RINGER: Peel Out, Read Em And Weep, I'm Gonna Love Her For Both Of Us
MIDNIGHT AT THE LOST AND FOUND: Razor's Edge, The Promised Land, If You Really Want To
BLIND BEFORE I STOP: Blind Before I Stop, Getting Away With Murder, Rock N' Roll Mercenaries
BAT OUT OF HELL II: Everything Louder Than Everything Else
WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD: Original Sin, Amnesty Is Granted

See what I mean? Meat has just too many hits and good songs to be crammed onto just 18 (total) tracks. A box set would've been better.

With all of these songs, it is hard to say that Meat never had a good career music wise. Even at his worst, Meat still was able to be better than other artist's BEST works, and do it in style.

Now, let's see if the success of the two jewels of this Best Of CD carries us into the upcoming Testify album, which is slated for a 2003 drop, and alsready tainted to be Meat's best work yet (even Meat is impressed with Testify, and he isn't too easy to impress). This is a wonderful compilation to hold us over until then.

Free Music Review: Tire Tracks and Broken Hearts!
Hit: 5 Stars

Most of you who own this album know that these title words are from the new trak "A Kiss is A Terrible Thing to Waste" which may be the best song ever written by Jim Steinman. What can you say?

The song really has two parts. The last part features the words "tire tracks and broken hearts, its all we're leaving behind", which features Bonnie Tyler. The song has more of a theme than any other Meat number I've ever heard.

My take on that theme is that the past is the past. Learn from it, and move on. But treasure every moment ("you'll have to pay for it later, if you don't get it when its going for free). The song obviously has beautiful music and is performed well by Meatloaf.

One of the other new songs, "Home by Now/No Matter What" is also beautiful in a haunting way. But, am I missing something or is this a medley of two incomplete songs? Either way it is great. The third new one, "Is Nothing Sacred Anymore" is not sacred and is somewhat weak.

Whenever a greatest hits album is put together, not everybody will agree with the selections. I don't think "Heaven Can Wait", "Dead Ringer For Love", or Midnight at the Lost and Found" belong on this album. With the latter, it may have been that Steinman though each album needed one song.

"For Crying Out Loud" from the original Bat is painfully missing. I would have liked to have seen it hear replacing "Heaven Can Wait". Many songs from "Dead Ringer" and "Bad Attitude" would have been nice additions, but there can only be so many songs on an album.

Might Jim Steinman and Meatloaf add some more of the classics and make a box set (with at least a few more new songs)? All in all, this is the best Meatloaf album ever, as it should be.

Free Music Review: Meatloaf's greatest hits create one hell of an album.
Hit: 5 Stars

When you combine all of Meatloaf's greatest hits they create one hell of an album. Seriously, I think this is the greatest album ever created. The only problem is that a lot of Meat's greatest songs are not featured on this album. For example 'For crying out loud' is painfully missing. A lot of other songs such as 'Bad attitude', 'Rock and roll mercenaries' and 'I'm gonna love her for the both of us' are also sadly missing. This is, unfortunately, quite a let-down to the album.

I thought it would be best to get the downside out of the way first because I still think this is a sensational purchase and one of the greatest albums ever. The songs which are featured on this album are fantasic. It has all the classics, from 'I'd do anything for love' to 'Bat out of hell'. Also, the three new songs do not let the album down. 'Home by now/ no matter what' is a fantastic song right from it's chilling introduction to it's amazing climax. This song was originally done by Boyzone titled 'No matter what'. 'A kiss is a terrible thing to waste' is also a great song which sounds very theatrical plus, as a bonus it features Bonnie Tyler. The lyrics 'Tyre tracks and broken hearts' at the end of the song were also featured in one of Meatloaf's earlier songs 'Peel Out'. This song may not sound exactly like a Meatloaf song but the sensational orchestra keeps you hooked all the way through.

This album gives a fantastic all-round image of Meatloaf's career and is possibly one of the greatest compilations put together, ever.

Free Music Review: A FANTASTIC COMPILATION!
Hit: 5 Stars

Meat Loaf is withoubt a doubt, one of the greatest legends of rock and roll! His powerful presence and epic voice give his songs a resonance that has lasted for almost three decades. And this Halloween, he brings his talents back to the series that made him a star, when BAT OUT OF HELL III: THE MONSTER IS LOOSE is released on CD, completing an epic trilogy. But if you're new to his music, then you'll wanna check out THE VERY BEST OF MEAT LOAF.

This collection is the best way to be introduced to the music of Meat Loaf. Included are the hit songs from both BAT OUT OF HELL and BAT OUT OF HELL II: BACK INTO HELL, as well as several of his lesser-known albums, such as DEAD RINGER. With each song, Meat Loaf gives a powerful performance, whether rocking out to "Bat out of Hell," or singing of love and loss in power ballads like "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad," "I'd Do Anything For Love," and my personal favorite Meat Loaf song, "I'd Lie for You (And That's the Truth)."

Along with the twelve classic songs, the collection also includes three new songs co-written by legendary songwriter Jim Steinman, who'd written all the songs on the first two BAT albums. The best new song is "A Kiss is a Terrible Thing to Waste," co-written by Steinman and legendary opera-writer Andrew Lloyd Webber.

This album is a tour-de-force that fans of Meat Loaf, and those experiencing his music for the first time, will surely enjoy! I highly recommend THE VERY BEST OF MEAT LOAF! Grade: A+

Free Music Review: His Music Still Glows Like The Metal On The Edge Of A Knife
Hit: 5 Stars

For years, I have been searching for a Meat Loaf album for my collection. I loved all the songs I'd heard by him, and I wanted to hear more. However, I was not able to find a compilation that suited me well. Until today, when I found the two disc "The Very Best Of Meat Loaf".

This cd has all the Meat Loaf you need. All of his biggest hits are here, including "You Took The Words Right Of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)" (love that intro), "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad", "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)", and, of, course, "Paradise By The Dashboard Light". And they all sound great. I also enjoyed the songs I've never heard before, such as "Objects In The Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are" and "Life Is A Lemon And I Want My Money Back".

I have a few gripes. One is that the cds don't fill the eighty minute time limit cds allow. I know most of Meat Loaf's best stuff, but they could've at least put "All Dressed Up With No Place To Go" and "Read 'Em And Weep" on here. But my biggest disappointing (a minor one, albeit), is that his song he sang as Eddie in "The Rocky Horror Show", "Hot Patootie Bless My Soul (Whatever Happened To Saturday Night)", is not included. Granted, it's not necessarily a true Meat Loaf song, but it's a song he's very much associated with and it would've been nice if it was included.

Other than that, I have no real complaints. This collection is a must have.
