Free Music Notes for Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?

Free Music Review: One of many classic Megadeth album's...
Hit: 5 Stars

Megadeth's PSBWB album put Megadeth "on the map"...and with good reason...This cd contains some of the best speed/thrash metal that I have ever heard! Now, about this remixed/remastered version, there are some songs that I like remixed/remastered and some songs that I like the original sound better on.

The songs that I like the original production on are Wake Up Dead, Peace Sells But Who's Buying, and Devil's Island. Here are the reasons why I like the originals better...On Wake Up Dead, the remixed vocals at the end of the song sound like crap in my opinion, and I like the original drums better on this song, Gar's cymbals just seem to literally cut thru the song, and his snare sounds better on the original. Peace Sells the original sounds better too for the drums and I love the raw power of the original on this song. Now, Devil's Island, there's something about Gar's snare, hi-hats, and cymbals that just sound better to me, I guess you wouldn't really notice unless you play drums, and his ride cymbal bell that uses thru-out the album sounds louder and more defined, which I like better.

Now, onto The Conjuring remixed/remastered, this song sounds a lot better to me. I always thought that the original sounded great, but it seemed kind of weak sounding with the original production, now with the crisp, clean remaster is seems to have added some weight/muscle to it. I feel the same about Bad Omen, I thought that it was a really cool song, but the original production seemed to make it kind of weak, and now with the remastered version it sounds a lot meatier. Black Friday and my favorite My Last Words, sound excellent remasterd, the only thing I don't like is how the Gar's tom rolls and ride cymbal bell use kind of toned down, but other than that they sound awesome!

So for me, I burned my own compilation cd and mixed the originals with the remasters, with the only set back is having to play with the volume control, but for me, this is my opinion on the original vs. the remastered version, I say get both!!!

Free Music Review: WOW...THAT EMO WH0RE SURE IS ANGRY!?
Hit: 5 Stars

The remixed and remastered Megadeth albums released in 2004 aren't your typical cash-ins. They're improvements over the originals: group leader Dave Mustaine did the remixing and remastering himself, making especially significant revisions to the earlier albums, and he includes insightful liner notes for each reissue, including track-by-track commentary for the bonus tracks, as well as lyrics and period photos. Along with So Far, So Good...So What! and Rust in Peace, Peace Sells...But Who's Buying? was most due for such a reissue as this. Originally recorded in early 1986 on a modest budget, this landmark album didn't boast pristine production, yet it was rightfully crowned a landmark release and remains one (one of the most influential metal albums of its decade and certainly one of the few truly definitive thrash albums, right up there with Metallica's Master of Puppets and Slayer's Reign in Blood, both of which were also released in 1986). Mustaine's liner notes help shed some light on the wondrous events surrounding this storied album, the band's second and the final one featuring guitarist Chris Poland and drummer Gar Samuelson. The four bonus tracks are alternate mixes by Randy Burns and aren't too remarkably novel in contrast. Peace Sells was so key to the development of metal and so influential to the then burgeoning thrash movement, it's a real godsend to have it remixed and remastered like this. Such treatment makes an already essential album for metal fans all the more essential. Beyond doubt, if you're going to own one and only one Megadeth album, make it this one. And if you've always wondered why Megadeth were so followed, here's a chief reason. The few albums that followed Peace Sells are damn good also, but this is the one that started it all. It's the foundation of the band's legacy and one of the best beginning to end metal albums ever.

Free Music Review: Megadeth's finest hour.
Hit: 5 Stars

Peace Sells is an amazing album by Megadeth, it's their second album and was a landmark during its release in 1986. Peace sells is certainly one of the definitive thrash metal albums along with Metallica's Master Of Puppets and Slayer's Reign In Blood and was highly influential to other bands, the total aggressivenes and Dave Mustain's snarling voice helped establish Megadeth as one of the top heavy metal bands of all time so you could see how important this album is.

The first song Wake up dead is one of my favorites as both guitarists Chris Poland and Dave Mustain start shredding while the song starts changing halfway through and becomes more intense, Conjuring then continues and this song kicks a** then you have the classic song Peace sells which starts of with its memorable basslines from Dave Ellefson if you haven't heard this song yet then you've probably been living under a rock for the past 20 years, Devil's island is another favorite track of mine this song has nice chugging riffs as the band starts chanting DEVIL'S ISLAND just fantastic.

Good mourning/black friday is like two songs in one its about witchcraft and the dark arts or something like that in which the album continues this theme along with a bit of politics, Bad omen is what the song title says which is great then theres I ain't superstitious which is a cover song not bad but not the best from this album and then it finishes of with the brilliant My last words. The bonus tracks just weren't that interesting since they were just remixes, anyway Peace Sells...But Who's Buying was the foundation of this bands legacy and one of the best thrash metal albums of all time so I highly recommend this.

Free Music Review: Classic Thrash!!
Hit: 5 Stars

God, I love Megadeth. They are truly without a doubt one of the greatest metal bands to form in the 80's (I'm not talking about that worthless hair crap like Cinderella, Warrant, Stryper, Bon Jovi, Poison, etc). I even had the privilege to see them perform at Rock Fest in Cadott over the summer, and boy, they put on a real kick ass performance. Their second album entitled "Peace Sells...But Who's Buying" released in 1986 (the same year Slayer and Metallica both released Reign In Blood and Master Of Puppets respectively) is a true thrash/speed metal classic, and I love it. This is also the band's second best album as well while "Rust In Peace" being their all time best album. Every song on here a true classic in every way. This gem truly has everything a true thrash freak can ask for: Kick ass vocals, awesome guitar riffs, lightning fast solos, wicked bass lines, and intense drumming. Dave Mustaine has very cool vocals, and there's tons of awesome jaw dropping leads and solos from him and Chris Poland. You've also got great bass from David Ellefson, and great drumming from Gar Samuelson. Here are the ratings for the songs (please note that the ratings apply to the older version of this CD).
themetalbeast's song ratings:
1. Wake Up Dead - 5/5
2. The Conjuring - 5/5
3. Peace Sells...But Who's Buying - 5/5
4. Devils Island - 5/5
5. Good Mourning/Black Friday - 5/5
6. Bad Omen - 5/5
7. I Ain't Superstitious - 5/5
8. My Last Words - 5/5

See every song gets a 5 out of 5.
Grade: A+ all the way!!

If you're a true thrash or metal fan like myself, you must own this album, get it now. MEGADETH RULES!!

Free Music Review: Peace Sells...but I'm buying!
Hit: 5 Stars

After two albums (If you dont count Metallicas KILL 'EM ALL) Megadeth has finally gotten some attention from metalheads around the world. This is the album that put Megadeth on the map with Metallica, Slayer and soon to come Anthrax for the Four Horsemen of thrash/speed metal. Although this came out at about the same time as Master of Puppets (Metallicas best album) I still find this the best of '86 and it has many great things about it.
Okay, about the album: The best songs are Peace Sells, Good Mourning/Black Friday and Bad Omen. All of these songs rate as some of the best Megadeth has ever unleashed upon their fans and we now praise them for these masterpieces. This truly rates in at one of the best Megadeth albums with Mustaines trademark solos with Polands helpas the other guitar soloist and with sarcastic lyrics like "What do you mean I pray to God? I talk to him everyday!" from the mindblowing 'Peace Sells' and the explicitly grotesque lyrics of "My hammers a cold piece of blood-lethal steel, I grin while you writhe in the pain that I deal" from the speedy 'Black Friday'. Basslines and drums are also top knotch here. Samuelson could kick Lar$ Ulrichs ass and while Ellefson was no match for Master Burton he still made some pretty sweet melodies.
Okay, about the remastered and remixed version: I love thought of remastering an album to make its sound and production more crisp and clear but the remixing was NOT such a good idea. I still give this five stars though because all in all the songs are relatively the same with really nothing big taken out so just buy one of the best metal albums of all time!
