Free Music Notes for Rust in PeaceFree Music Review: megadeth masterpiece Hit: 5 Stars
I waiver on which is my favorite deth cd. somedays it's this one and others it's Countdown to Extinction. either way both are great. Now this is what a metal album should be like. Mustaine re-establishes himself as a talented lyricist. Each and every track offers musicianship, as is and has been the trademark of every Megadeth album. Even more so for this album, as it has guitar great Marty Friedman working on lead guitar. Mustaine's tight and precise rhythm work added with great bass lines from Dave Ellefson and fast- as-hell drumming from Nick Menza you have one outstanding album.
I won't get into a debate as to whether the remastered version is better then the original or vice versa, however, there are few things you should know before rushing to the store to buy this album. If you have the original, don't bother with buying this version as the original captured the intensity and the mood of the band at the time. This version serves to give a fine sheen and make the sound quality better, in which it excels. I can't shake the feeling that Mustaine might have re-recorded some parts, which just ruins the whole thing.
Free Music Review: The finest of its class... Hit: 5 Stars
This is Megadeth's finest album, their crowning achievement, being a solid cut above it's successor 'Countdown to Extinction'
This album clearly deserves 5 stars..
Note that I rarely give an A+
'Holy Wars..The Punishment Due' is my favorite Deth track A+
'Hangar 18' is a classic with solo after wicked solo A+
'Take No Prisoners' is solid and fast A-
'Five Magics' has a wicked bass line A-
'Poison Was the Cure' has a wicked groove A-
'Lucritia' is freaking sickkkkk A+
'Tornado of Souls' is the second best song here A+
'Dawn Patrol' is a cool build up to the final track -
'Rust in Peace.. Polaris' sounds different, but is sick A
There you have it. In my opinion RIP has 4 A+ songs.
Peace Sells has 3, (Wake Up Dead, Peace Sells & Good Mourning/Black Friday)
Countdown to Extinction has 3, (Symphony of Destruction, CTE, Sweating Bullets)
TWNAH has 2 (Dread and Fugitive Mind, Return to Hangar)
Youthanasia, Cryptic Writings, Killing is my Business and Risk have none.
Free Music Review: Very good intro to thrash - 4.5 stars Hit: 5 Stars
I am not an avid follower of Thrash, but I thought of adding a few to my collection. Just to mention my favourite metal band is Iron maiden & 70's King Crimson! So I first bought Metallica's "Master of puppets", which liked from my third listening but I am hooked to "Rust in peace" from the very first listen which my second thrash album.
Megadeth is a good band, I am now ready to listen a few more from them. Marty Friedman & Dave Mustain plays together in this album, so guitar department is rock solid and Nick Menza gives them good support with his usual bombastic drumming.
Although all the tracks are very good, if I need to mention a particular track that got me hooked, it has to be "Tornado of souls", a truely edge of the seat rocker in every sense of the word.
Even if you think you have outgrown listening metals, it may still provide a good energatic listening and it is essential for metal fans. Oh..I should also mention the cover of the album is great.
Note:- The Cd I have was the one without the bonus tracks.
Free Music Review: Rust In Peace (Remixed and Remastered) Hit: 5 Stars
i've owned the original megadeth releases of both rust in peace and countdown to extinction, then i saw the remixed and remastered versions in stores and had to get a copy. i don't understand what other people on here are complaining about because it says right on the package remixed and remastered which is what usually is entailed behind the meaning remixed and remastered meaning some elements were remastered while some were re-recorded and whatnot, megadeth surely aren't the first band to use this process. if you ever buy the dualdisc version of nine inch nails album the downward spiral, trent reznor did the same thing. but in either case i think both artists and any artist has the right to do with their music as they see fit, i really appreciate the fact dave mustaine decided to re-record a lot of the vocal tracks as the original were often times incoherent. anyway i give this album 5 stars out of five because it's not butchered at all but a rediscovering of a classic ass kicking album.
Free Music Review: Great, stop whining Hit: 5 Stars
I really think it's time to stop whining about this album. Rust In peace is an unbelievable classic. This remaster, on the whole, sounds better than the original (as you'd expect with a remaster), and the new vocals couldn't be helped. Vocal track tapes went missing for certain songs, and so alternate takes from 1990 were used for the songs Five Magics and Lucretia, and Take No Prisoners had to be resung. Considering the 14 year gap between the original recording of RIP and the resung vocals on TNP, Dave Mustaine's 2004 vocals on the track stand up very well. Whether you like these alternate vocals or not is down to the individual, but surely it's time to stop moaning about something that just couldn't be helped. The remastering and remixing of these albums was a great job, and the remasters are the ones i listen to more often than not. But, if you don't like the remasters - don't listen to them! Listen to the originals. Either way, this is a classic album.
