Free Music Review: "...He who lives in sin will surely live the lie..."
Hit: 5 Stars

The first song I have ever heard from Megadeth was "Promises" from their album The World Needs A Hero. That was way back, probably in the year 2002, and I liked it very much. However, it wasn't until five years later that I finally liked another song from the band, which was "Prince of Darkness" from their controversial album Risk. I didn't really care much about Megadeth's music until the last few months of 2010. The first album I had listened to from start to finish was Youthanasia, and I already fell in love with it. It became one of my favorite thrash albums of all time. Soon, I explored even deeper. The World Needs A Hero and Cryptic Writings were lovingly enjoyable experiences, and now Rust in Peace is yet another album that I openly recommend to metal fans everywhere.

This was made before Countdown to Extinction, so the band's more familiar mainstream sound is heard in some occasions. If you know Megadeth, then you'll know that the lyrics range from religion to government to nuclear apocalypse. The best songs on this album are "Hangar 18," "Lucretia," and "Five Magics." Meanwhile, songs like "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due," "Take No Prisoners," and "Tornado of Souls" are awe-inspiring and there's no way that any metal fan can dislike them. The only song I [kind of] don't like, however, is "Poison was the Cure," but even this song isn't really half bad.

Overall, I must say that this is a fine album by Megadeth. Now I can't decide which album should be the next one that I should listen to. Countdown to Extinction or The System Has Failed? I guess I'll have to find out for myself.

Grade: 9.3/10

Free Music Review: 1990 - The Year They Killed Thrash
Hit: 5 Stars

You don't always kill music by playing it poorly. Sometimes the worst thing for it is perfection. To create something so inspired, so ideal, at once typical and transcendent, that it calls into question the validity of the genre itself. The fundamentals, in being perfectly executed, finally begin to break down and dissolve and in the end, lying serenely, is a fresh corpse who will resist all attempts at resuscitation.

"Rust In Peace" is just such a murderer. On this one, Mustaine is finally able to blend madness with brilliance, aiming for headshots this time - instead of relying on the full auto tactics of his youth. And, as usual, he brings friends. This incarnation of Megadeth was excellent, Friedman and Menza complementing Dave's growing technicality. Also, Ellefson again somehow manages to anchor it all, Megadeth being a band that actually uses their bass player.

The end result is, of course, legendary. Still reeling from the monstrous requiem mass that was "...And Justice For All", and now under the combined assualt of this album, Slayer's "Seasons In The Abyss", Anthrax's "Persistence Of Time", and Testament's "Souls of Black" (with help from Judas Priest's unexpected shredder, "Painkiller"), Thrash reached critical mass in 1990. But this one, in my opinion, is what finally did the deed.

More than anything, this album is one man's obsession achieved. This one not only proved there was no second best, but more importantly, that there never was. In the process of proving this, thrash metal was deconstructed and discarded - making way for nastier things to come. 1990 was a good year for metal.

Free Music Review: FLINSTONES, MEET THE FLINSTONES!
Hit: 5 Stars

1990 WAS A GREAT YEAR FOR THE THRASH METAL SCENE! THIS IS A MUST ALBUM FOR YOUR THRASH METAL LIBRARY. I LIVED FOR ALBUMS LIKE THIS ONE. I PARTIED HARD AND LIVED HARD JUST LIKE I LOVED THE WAY MY MUSIC WAS, HARD-FAST-GUT THUMPING IN YOR FACE, MAKE YOU WANT TO SMACK THE IDIOTS OF THE WORLD METAL! MEGADETHS RUST IN PEACE IS THAT KIND OF ALBUM. "CHECK SOME OF MY REVIEWS ABOUT PARTYING WITH METAL" YOU LISTEN TO THIS AND IT WANTS TO BRING YOU IN THE PIT WITH ALL YOUR BUDS. I WAS WITH A FRIEND, AND WE WERE DRIVING TO THE TWIN CITIES TO GO AND SEE A DEATH / PESTILENCE CONCERT. THIS WAS THE ALBUM THAT HIT THE PLAYER IN MY FRIENDS CAR. A DRUM PLAYER THAT I AM I LOVE TO DO THE AIR DRUMS, ALONG WITH THE BASS COMES THE STOMPING OF BOTH THE FEET. HE WOULD ALWAYS CURSE AND SWEAR AT ME THROWING PUNCH'S TELLING ME TO SETTLE DOWN WITH THE DRUMMING " LIKE I HEARD A DAMN THING THAT HE SAID. I WAS LISTNING TO THE IMMORTAL DAVE. THE NEXT THING THAT I FELT WAS THE TREMENDOUS PAIN IN MY LEFT LEG! I DIDN'T GET HIT BY RODNEY " MY FRIEND" BUT INSTEAD MY FOOT WENT THROUGH HIS FLOORBOARD! DAMN, YEARS OF STOMPING MY FEET TO METAL GODS, AND THE WEATHER OF MINNESOTA TOOK ITS TOLL! NOT ONLY DOES MY EARS BLEED FOR MEGADETH, BUT SO DID MY LEG THAT DAY. HE WASN'T AS PISSED OFF AS I THOUGHT HE WOULD HAVE BEEN. HE SAID MY SUFFERING WAS THE GASH IN MY LEG AND THE FRICKIN COLD WIND COMING IN FROM BELOW ME LIKE A FRED FLINSTONE VEHICLE. THE WOUND DID NOT STOP ME FROM ROCKIN SOLID THAT WEEKEND, BUT IT DEFINATELY SLOWED ME DOWN. ANOTHER GREAT MEMORY OF MEGADETH AND AN ALBUM THAT CAN STAND THE TESTS OF TIME / AND YOUR FLOORBOARD.

Free Music Review: This is a great re-job
Hit: 5 Stars

There isn't much to fix if a product ain't broke, specially when it comes to Megadeth forth and arguably best album "RIP".
The album was, is, and will always be one of Thrash Metal's cornerstone.
Fast, driving, distorted and amazing riffs, backed up by great bass lines and aggressive, killer beats is a combination hard to beat. Add on that Dave's passionate vocals and intelligent lyrics and you have the masterpiece we all loved.
Trully there is little if any room for change. Well, I beleive that Dave made something good even better with this remix. The tracks by all instruments are VERY MUCH clearer. The reverb has being taken out and the re-recording makes it easier to listen to each instrument on it's own. As a whole the music is just as aggressive, heavy, and full of energy as before.
The other difference is that Dave re-recorded his vocals. Again, the drowning reverb was taken off. Other than that the only difference that you could tell are the back vocals in most of the songs, they just sound in a slightly different scale.
The record definitely gained on this remix on it's weakest spot (production), now sounding digital and more "modern". If you like it or not is a matter of taste, that it sounds better is a matter of fact. Is it worth $15??? if you didn't had the original, bring your credit card right now and do yourself a favor. If you did, well, new tracks and a new better sleeve might sell it for you.
Highlights: Holy Wards, Hangar 18
Lowlights: pointless if you already owned it.

Free Music Review: To Fred Dursts fan
Hit: 5 Stars

YOU SUCK! If you knew anything about metal you'd realize that Dave Mustaine (not Hetfield, idiot) is one of the best metal guitarists ever if not THE best (he's next to Tony Iommi) and that Wes Borland sucks! Fred Durst is just some 40 year old going through her, I mean his midlife crisis and he wants to feel young again by "rapping" about how he f**ked Britney Spears and how he wears his hat backwards. Anyone who likes Limp Bizkit is retarded, seriously. Megadeth kicks ass and if Mustaine, Ellefson, or the rest of the band saw what you wrote than a shotgun would be the last thing you saw. Right, I'm done.
Anyway, I really like this album. Its one of my favorite CD's that I've ever purchased. Holy Wars has some of the best songwriting I've ever heard, and some of the best solos too. Same goes for Hangar 18, except instead of 3 or 4 great solos you have ELEVEN! Five Magics has an amazing bass intro by Ellefson and the guitars are pretty damn sweet too, lyrics also good. Dawn Patrol is a bit different, with just bass and bass drums (aside from vocals). Rust In Peace...Polaris has a great verse riff and great songwriting from Mustaine, drum intro is also pretty cool. Those are the standout songs, the others are good, just not as good. If you love Megadeth, metal, rock, or just music, then get this.
**NOTE** - When I say "music" I mean rock, and anything with instruments AND vocals. I dont mean pop, post '96 rap, emo (it has vocals and instruments, but it sucks), and pop-R&B.
