Free Music Notes for Rust in Peace

Free Music Review: 5 stars... no more like 1000 stars!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Let me warn you before you start reading, I just discovered my love for Megadeth, and thrash metal in general, during the past 2 years, so I haven't heard the original Rust In Peace.

What I do know, however, is that if what other reviewers say about the original is true, then it must be the best thrash album out there, because I love my copy of the remaster like a teddy bear. I take it with me in the car. It comes with me on vacation. Hell, I've slept with it under my pillow before.

When I first bought this I thought it was very overrated, but it didn't take me more than a month of listening to it before it became my best friend. Holy Wars is amazing. Hangar 18 is one of best thrash songs ever recorded. Can you say SOLO BATTLE? Friedman and Mustaine take turns soloing for about 4 minutes. Let's not forget the opening riff either. Hangar 18 is one of those songs that makes me want to throw rocks at a school bus. It is IMPOSSIBLE to keep from banging your head while listening to this album. Every song, even the somewhat funny Dawn Patrol, is 100/10. The bonus tracks, as I've found is a common theme with the remasters, aren't worth much. Basically they're different versions of Holy Wars, Rust In Peace, Take No Prisoners, and then a new song that Menza wrote most of.

Bottom Line: Arguably the greatest thrash album ever made, the best Megadeth album out there, the first two tracks should be enough of a motive for you to buy this RIGHT NOW.

Free Music Review: Worth Paying A Second Time
Hit: 5 Stars

If you're checking out this album then you're probably a Megadeth fan, or about to become one. In either case, I strongly urge you to get this remastered version and I'll tell you why.

If you're an old fan and already have the 'original' version of this CD (like me), get it and be BLOWN AWAY by how much heavier all the songs sound in their remastered glory. I always thought the original RIP was a great album, Holy Wars... being my favorite track. So when I frst popped this cd in the player, I was very pleased to hear that Dave Mustaine got it right. Guitars sound crisper, the drums are MUCH clearer and more powerful (compared to the muddled mix of the original), and I can actually hear the basslines! Not to mention some 'backing vocals' (shouts) that got lost in the original mix.

I'm not going to go through the tracks here as this is a 'classic' thrash metal record made better. In addition, you get 4 bonus 'demo' tracks with Chris Poland on lead guitar.

The only thing that some people may gripe about is that Dave re-sung the vocals on this album. I have no problem with that personally as the songs still sound great.

In conclusion, if you're new to Megadeth, this is a good album to start with. If you're an old fan or already have the cd (and love it), I promise you this remastered version is like a blast of fresh air, literally, and blows away the original.

Free Music Review: Tornado of Riffs
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been listening to this album for half my life (14 years) and I swear it never gets dull/boring. Just like someone else here rightly said, this along with Master of Puppets will forever be remembered in metal history long after we are gone. Some idiots say that this album is overrated and has only a couple good songs. I say #uck them all naysayers. Every song on this album rocks like a hurricane and then some. I am really at a loss for words for this review. Check out the solos in Tornado of Souls/5 Magics, they will burn your face. Awesome! I am not going to spend too much time review a masterpiece.

Too much has been said about the vocal change, dont let it bother you so much. This is what I say. If you are a Megadeth fan, you already have this CD so should you get this remastered one? Well, the 3 demos make it worth it but only if you can spare $15 more. Unless you are a hardcore fan who needs to have a total catalogue from Deth, you could pass this over since you already have a copy. If you are hard-pressed for money, leave this alone. In case you dont have this CD, GREAT, dont waste a second, run to a store nearby and get this album. You, as a metalhead, will not regret buying this album. Its actually an investment, since you will be listening to this album many many times over in your life. For me, this CD is going to my grave cause I need to riff in peace.

Free Music Review: Remastered with altered vocals.
Hit: 5 Stars

This by far is the best thrash metal album to ever grace the speakers of stereos on this planet. This album is pure perfection from opening note to the closing second of the disc. I can absolutely find not even the slightest thing that could've been done differently to improve this album, other than maybe more songs. There is no album that can or in my opinion ever will top this. This is a metal milestone and Dave Mustaine my hat is off to you!!!!!!!! That said, the vocals from my understanding had to be redone on some songs on this and on the "So Far So Good So What" album due to a bad batch of tape that Megadeth obtained from the manufacturer during that time period so I guess it's forgiveable. The music is intact and never sounded this great. For instance, with the verse riff to Hangar 18, you can now clearly hear the seperate note picking where the notes kinda meshed together on the 1990 version. That's how crisp it sounds now. As far as the bonus tracks are concerned, "My Creation" in my opinion could still be done without, but the demo's with Chris Poland on lead are worth purchasing this all over again just to hear him on these beloved tracks and hear the differences between him and Marty. Still a classic Metal MILESTONE no matter when it's remastered or re-released that should be owned by all true metal lovers around the globe!

Free Music Review: Incredible Sound, but.....
Hit: 5 Stars

Yeah, all the instruments sound unreal...even better than the original. I don't know what Dave did, but everything sounds crisp and clean. I'm pretty sure he didn't redo the instruments, so all the music is original...except some of the vocals...which comes to my only problem with this album.

Now, granted, I'm very anal about this album because I've listened to it a million times since 1990, and have learned the songs on guitar (even though they take FOREVER to perfect, or even get close), so I immediately noticed that some of the songs had the vocals redone.

The vocals are NOT bad, they're just slightly different than the original, and this sorta drives me nuts when blasting it and singing along, because the slighted variance just throws you off a little. They're all clean and sung well, just off a little. Most noticably are the "growls" like on 'Five Magics'.

But, the way the guitars and bass sound...just totally make up for getting this. He really mixed it well...but like I said, the vocals sometimes seem "out of place". For whatever reason that was done, whether the tracks got lost or whatever, it sucks. The best song 'Holy Wars', sound like the orignal vocals, so that one got untouched...there might be 1 or 2 others untouched.
