Free Music Notes for The System Has Failed

Free Music Review: Fv<king awesome!
Hit: 5 Stars

If you have being a Megadeth fan for the last 15 years, you are going to rejoice when you listen to The System Has Failed. Yet the sound is not the same as in SFSGSW or RIP, TSHF is a heavy, fast, strong effort from Dave Mustaine that recaptures the youth, strength and attitude of his earlier works.
The System Has Failed is basically the next step after The World Needs A Hero, building a new Megadeth based on Megadeth's concept, which is intelligent lyrics, heavy riffs, fast beats and a heavy yet melodic sound put together. By this, we have speed like in "Blackmail the Universe" in which the last half of the song sounds even similar to "Into The Lungs Of Hell" from SFSGSW. We have a very heavy guitar tone that was never really used before in Megadeth's music, it's no longer a crunch like in Mustaine's first records, rather is a smashing cleaner and meaner sound. His voice sounds as it usually does, yet the anger and new sense of melody find a good place in this album, specially in "Die Dead Enough" and "Of Mice And Men". There are plenty of speedy riffs and songs like in Megadeth's old days, specially the Iron Maidenesque "Back In The Day", sounds like something from KIMBusiness.
Simply every song is heavy, every song at some point reminds us that we are listening to a thrash metal band, yet the modern tones and effects remind us that we are listening to a new 2004 record, and what a record it is. Megadeth has successfully mixed heavy riffage, speed metal blasts, and thrash rhythms and solos together with amazing and awesome melodies both vocally and instrumentally, all in pure Megadeth style.
Aside of Mustaine's ability, the drummer and bassist aren't just 'as good enough to play with Dave' but actually add a lot to the mix, just listen to "Kick The Chair"s drumbeats for a sample.
All and all, is it Megadeth's best??? I don't think so, but it's close, at least I can say that it's Megadeth's most consistent and focused album to the date.
Highlights: Kick The Chair, Truth Be Told, Blackmail The Universe
Lowlights: I Know Jack, Shadow of Deth

Free Music Review: Megadeth is back with vengeance!
Hit: 5 Stars

When hearing about that Megadeth broke up in 2002 (April 3) it was devastating. My favorite band of all time is no more :O. After that period I listened like a maniac to all previous Megadeth album.. But then in early 2004 Dave Mustaine came back mentioning that he will release another Megadeth album (and later begin a solo career). As you might or might not know, this album was supposed to start his solo career, but since he had contract for one more Megadeth album it went under the Megadeth name.

So to begin describeing this new album called The System Has Failed. I would say it's a mixture of different Megadeth albums with fst songs, slower songs and some excellent solos and of course Dave's voice (is better than ever). Dave used some great session musician on this album. It's Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, Jimmy Sloas on bass and one returning Megadeth member, Chris Poland, who is handling the guitar. This is though by no way the new Megadeth, since they were only hired to play on this album (and some might continue over to Dave's solo career). Also this is the following Megadeth tour line-up:
Dave Mustaine - vocals, guitar
Glen Drover - guitar (Eidolon)
James MacDonough - bass (Iced Earth)
Nick Menza - drums (you rule dude!)

I think one of the best things about this album is the lyrics. I was writing them down one day and you get so much better understanding for them then. Just take the major Lars Ulrich bashing song Something That I'm Not and more.. And the cover is awesome (made my Mike Learn (http://www.mikelearn.com)).

I can't stop talking about this album, but I guess I have to now. All I can say is Megadeth is back at full force and if you don't get this album it's your loss!

Too bad though that this seems to be the last Megadeth album, though you can continue following Dave Mustaine's solo career (I know I will).. Ok, I will stop now..

Go buy it!

Ouch, stop hitting me.. Ok ok, this is the line of my review. My final verdict is that it gets a strong 5/5..

Free Music Review: A return to form
Hit: 5 Stars

After a decade of slow tempos and "alternative" styles, Megadeth has returned to its metal roots with The System has Failed. The record is the band's heaviest since 1992's Countdown to Extinction - and its strongest melodically since 1997's Cryptic Writings.

With an almost all-new band behind him, singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine blasts through all 12 tracks convincingly, playing like it's 1985 and singing as convincingly as ever. Though several tracks stand out, very few are worth skipping over.

"Tears in a Vial" is the album's love ballad despite its galloping, distorted guitar riffs and pounding drums. It is one of the best Megadeth songs in recent memory, with heartfelt lyrics and a great vocal melody. It would work well as a single.

Other highlights include the simple, head-banging "Something I'm Not," the melodic "Scorpion" and the first single, "Die Dead Enough."

The album's title, and the cover art, leads listeners to believe it is an anti-Iraq war statement. But the title comes from the song "Kick the Chair," about the judicial system, and Mustaine told the online Metal Temple that he in fact supports the war - winning my admiration at least.

Unfortunately, though, the record is not without its flaws. Though the lyrics are well-written and challenging, once in awhile Mustaine growls them in a rather pathetic manner.

Also, though "Truth be Told" has an excellent verse melody, the transition to the heavy chorus is awkward, and the chorus melody is not up to the standards of the rest of the album.

Finally, the record's only downright failure is "Shadow of Deth," a Biblical verse read by...someone badly imitating a Viking...or something. Skip it.

But all in all, the record is a must-have for fans of real metal. In a year where Metallica's latest is horrendous and the "The" bands are all the rage, The System has Failed indeed. Metalheads need to fight back and buy this record.

Free Music Review: Dave Mustaine Never Dies
Hit: 5 Stars

That's it! This is the ultimate thrash metal album from the mother of all thrash metal bands, MEGADETH. What a way to come back when we all were mourning the loss of this wonderful band. Not only is Mustaine back, but he proves a point here. Metal never dies. Its in the veins and thats what makes this sorta music magical.

The album begins with an adrenelin rush monster Blackmail The Universe. This is done totally in tempo of Rust in Peace, both rhytm and lead sections resemblings the 90 released work-of-art. Die Dead Enough, one of my fav tracks on the CD, has a melody that gets into your flesh and only comes out when operated. One of the most hummable metal song in recent times, the songwriting is excellent. Kick The Chair, kicks ass. It only picks up the tempo and thrashes and blasts like a monsterball rolling. Scorpion/Tears in Vial carry on the torch forward. Riffing, leads, all perfectly in place. The album does not slow a bit from here (AKA World Needs A HERO). The two small instrumentals (Jack, Death) are excellent and very addictive. Simple and endearing structures. Back In the Day, is another fast tempo track with a great chorus as in Five Magics. The song basically is about old-school metal, which old fans like me cherish. I dont want to spew hatred about unworthy new bands calling themselves metal now and waste my time, but God, this song reminds me and touches all the metal buttons inside of me (Like Anthax's Strap It On Old School). Something is obviously written with Ulrich in mind, and Mustaine clearly delineats between Megadeth and 'tallica here. While the latter for what ever reason compromised its style, the former never did.

In one word, AWESOME. I still cannot believe Mustaine is so metal. Age never caught with his the ferocity of his King V. Besides, the production on the album is really good. The support acts of bass and drums did a neat job. Lead help from old buddy Samuelson never hurt. All in all, back in blackmail.

Free Music Review: Where Metallica and Van Halen fails...
Hit: 5 Stars

I used to be a Metallica fan. I really was. Black label generation. Went got their other discs too. Hard stuff. Then came Load. Okay. Not horrible. ReLoad. Getting ***** now, but I can listen to it. Then Metallica really went to crap. What a bunch of wusses. What is worse they pay the radio djs so much that their crappy single was on all the time.

Van Halen...same thing. Cherone sucked and so does Sammy now. Only difference is that they play the sammy stuff on the air over and over again.

For two bands that were the coolest hardest bands in their own time, it is sad to see them nothing more than pop music. I'm waiting for the unplugged duets cd featuring Metallica and Britanny Spears. Maybe a boy band could go cover some Ride the Lighting. Talk about sold out. Those guys don't even have a raincheck anymore.

Out comes Megadeth. Die Dead Enough, the first single, wow. You can always count on Deth for some *** kicking. Have to almost strangle the dj's to get some play time though. Not in the *COMPANIES* regular rotation. Now look at the key word that was told to me by the dj "COMPANIES" rotation. So, Megadeth didn't sell out and still kill everything they touch. Now you have to either buy this album or request the **** out of the single to hear some metal rock. I say do both. The dj's really are tired of playing the whiney *****es...err...I mean Metallica...do them a favor and force Die Dead Enough to the Companies rotation. Then do yourself a favor and pick up this album.

Power and speed. Lyrics that make even the most hateful metal hater take appreciation. Just shows that time again, the best thing that ever happened to rock was Mustaine getting kicked out of Wussallica.

Pick up the album. Die Dead Enough is worth price of admission alone. Request the song all day and let Metallica go back to whatever Zima commercial they are shooting today. Leave the metal to Deth
