I really don't hear a whole lot at all when it really comes to so many great artists that sing and write from the heart. For somebody like Melissa Etheridge, she has been one of those few mainsream acts that has proven her soul and feelings of great Rock & Pop music throught the testiments of time. Yet, the past few years haven't been all that well to her. After serious bouts with cancer, and lacluster albums like Skin and Lucky. Althogh they have some great songs, there are just some that could've wanted more. While she hasn't made anything inawhile, there has been the feelings for an overdue hits package. Now, the time has come.
Mellisa Etheridge's 2005 The Road Less Traveled, is a reflection of Melissa's longtime career that has been for almost 20 years, and the ups and downs she has faced. The collection does carry quite well for some, with a lot of great songs, while die hard fans might feel that there actually cou've been more here. The collection includes so many great songs that have been standards for the smalltown icon including hits like Come To My Window, If I Wanted To, Ain't It Heavy, I Want To Come Over, the hard driven Angels Would Fall, and Bring Me Some Water. Yet, while there is so much, a lot of great tracks like Nowhere To Go, her last hit Breathe, Your Little Secret, and I Wanna Be In Love were definitely overshadowed here. Arguably, the album does makeup for that with some good new tracks like Refugee.
Although this is a fairly good hits package of Melissa Etheridge's career, it really needed some more classics. Nevertheless, for anybody who doesn't own a Melissa Etheridge record at all, this would be to as close to definitive as you could get to her window.
