Free Music Review: Souls Take Another Journey Toward Heaven
Hit: 5 Stars

Every CD that Melissa Etheridge has released moved my soul to another height. The Awakening has made it soar. From the first track to the last, I felt as if I walked beside her through the journeys of her life, sharing every pain, every tear, every triumph, every sorrow and every joy.
This CD is unlike any that you have heard before from Melissa but it will crawl into your heart and nestle there contently. You can hear the pain and deep regret in Track 3, an apology to an unknown. My favorite track is number 9 I've Loved You Before. In my own life, I know that my love has been before in another time. Melissa captures that feeling so deeply in this song. The album title is ironic, this CD is truly "The Awakening"
I don't know how much higher you can take my spirit and my soul, Melissa, with your music, but, I can't wait for the continued flight. Peace to you,Tammy and the children, my friend and thank you.

Free Music Review: Melissa's Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

Albeit my bias to being a huge Melissa fan, I must say this is the finest work she has put out to date.

This "concept" album flows so seemlessly from one song to another. It evolves, just as Melissa herself has evolved.

Some fans may be surprised by the lack of "rock and roll" music and mournful longing usually present in Etheridge's music. However, it shows the maturity and happiness of the artist herself. In fact, I found her use of different types of genres (country, pop, blues), to be refreshingly different. She proves that she is not just a "rock star" but a true musical craftsman.

Several songs are memorable and enjoyable. However, my hands down favorite is "I Have Loved You Before." This, in my humble opinion, is one of the most beautiful, heartfelt love songs ever written.

Bravo Melissa!

Free Music Review: Album of the Year
Hit: 5 Stars

I love this album. The lyrics are fresh, positive, inspiring, political, empowering. Her best album yet. I vote it album of the year. My favorites are the 4 most politically charged songs:

WHAT HAPPENS TOMORROW which is pro-women's empowerment & pro-Hillary
THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN which juxtaposes extremists of various ilks intermixed with a beautiful refrain: "My G-d is love, my G-d is peace, My G-d loves you, My G-d loves me".
A SIMPLE LOVE a simple song celebrating her love with her wife Tammy Lynn Michaels
OPEN YOUR MIND which reminds us of our choice between dispair & hope

I'VE LOVED YOU BEFORE & UNEXPEXTED RAIN are both gorgeous ballads.
MESSAGE TO MYSELF is a great song to wake up to & always puts a smile on my face. The whole album is an inspiration. Great comeback, Melissa!

Free Music Review: Surprise ... she's even better
Hit: 5 Stars

I've never been a rabid fan of Melissa Etheridge, even though I own four of her albums. I've always considered her to be well above average, but perhaps not just absolutely fabulous. After listening to this album once I've changed my mind. I think she's attained true greatness, and I believe this album might be her best overall. When other successful artists often come through with consistently good material, she comes out with even better material. Seems to me that's a rare occurrence. I'm truly impressed, and I'm not that easily impressed (my favorite band is Led Zeppelin, and yes, I saw them live along with a lot of other legends from the period). This one will likely earn a permanent folder on my MP3 player.

Free Music Review: Stunning
Hit: 5 Stars

"The Awakening" is Melissa's best work in years. Lucky and Skin were fun, good albums, but this takes it to a whole different level. It is as if Melissa was struck by a lightning bolt of inspiration and really reached back to craft an outstanding album. The music ranges from slow acoustic ballads to all out rockers, and the only slip up seems to be "Threesome" which seems a little out of place and isn't worthy of the other songs. There are some great ones however such as "Kingdom of Heaven", "Imagaine That", and "What Happens Tomorrow". "Kingdeom of Heaven" is one of the best songs I have heard in a long time. The verses and lyrics are epic. ONce you hear this album, you will listen to it over and over!
