Free Music Review: Demons of Sludge
Hit: 4 Stars

This is one of my favorite bands of the Seattle 80's scene. they just took the garage sound and turned that into something wicked. When I just started with MELVINS, it was with "Houdini", which has a more developed and "polished" sound. "Gluey Porch Treatments" is definitively a record that not everybody will love if it's first time listening to MELVINS, this is far away from the early recordings that were more pure Punk Rock based ("Mangled Demos from 1983") but this is totally MELVINS' sound. you love it or hate it, no middle points.

Some of the songs are really short and fast tracks, inspired maybe in the thrash metal scene of that period, but in the same album we can find songs that are so slow, that you may think that you are stuck in that very moment since a while ago, and you just do not wanna get out.

Free Music Review: big loud dumb fun
Hit: 4 Stars

the Melvins have carved themselves a niche in the underground as being one of the most confusing bands around these days. their songs range from short little outbursts to drawn out sludge fests...but in their later material, they have much more of a KISS sound (albeit, in their own special twisted kind of way). but Gluey Porch Treatments is one of their early efforts and is a prime example of their noisy reckless and counfoundingly inspired output. if you are more used to modern metal sludgy band's sound, then this might take some time to get used to...it's far more noisy, silly, sloppy, and well...let's face it...dumb. but in a good way.
