Free Music Notes for Menotti: Amahl and the Night VisitorsFree Music Review: By far the best Hit: 5 Stars
This is the only recording of Amahl & the Night Visitors worth having. As other reviewers have stated, there are other recordings with more technical clarity, but absolutely no other compares to the purity, warmth, and feeling present in this original cast production. I am not an opera fan but have loved "Amahl" since childhood - it brings tears to my eyes every year. Give it a try!
Free Music Review: First hand account Hit: 5 Stars
When I was a child, my father's chorus put on a production of Amahl and invited Gian Carlo to stage it. It was a delightful experience to see first hand how the composer saw his work. My brother sang the role of Amahl and there were times my father would humor me and let me sing the mother when rehearsing with by brother. It is my favorite Christmas tradion of all.
Free Music Review: Brought back Christmas memories Hit: 5 Stars
I saw the first Amahl performance on TV 58 years ago. It was repeated each year for a number of years and then it disappeared. I finally discovered the existance of this DVD and was delighted to buy it for my own. It is wonderful to learn that the Mother, Rosemary Kuhlmann, is still alive. The interview with her is fun and it is great that it is included.
Free Music Review: A Holiday Must! Hit: 5 Stars
This is a wonderful operetta that my father introduced me to when I was a young girl. Its music is fun and moving all at the same time; this CD and the video are great for both parents and children. My siblings and I know the words by heart, and we are thrilled that the music has been issued on CD.
Free Music Review: My favorite Christmas music Hit: 5 Stars
Having seen the original TV production of Amahl as a kid, I have very fond and tender memories of this story, and I find the music to be absolutely delightful - profound but in a very accessible and somewhat playful way. This recording brings back the spirit of Christmas to me instantly!
