Free Music Review: 'all creation hangs on Your every Word'

Words from Fall Down, a song that all five band members contributed to which speaks to the sovereignty of God over the world He has created. The lyrics are hardly original or brilliant since the concepts are all rooted in scripture (a good sign). However, I love how Bart Millard and the others put those concepts into words. The title for my review was a phrase which resonated in me during my recent two week vacation in the Sierras just outside of Yosemite National Park, a neck of the woods where many of God's creatures/created, (bears, deer, sheep, people, streams...), are represented! The title track too, On my way to You, not my favorite, but the phrase 'just like where I am headed, there's joy in the journey' typifies the reality of a christian's journey with Christ, even if the path is not so spectacularly scenic or outwardly joyful as mine, at the time, really was. However, in the Sierras, or any other beautiful, unspoiled place on the globe, the vista, I believe, is only a 'glimpse of Your glory' in heaven as the band states in Cannot say enough. (I don't think Heaven will be polluted!) Being surrounded by large rocks and many mountains over 14,000 feet high, I was inspired by the words in Fall Down: 'My soul finds rest and comfort from only You. My Fortress and my Rock (Psalm 62, Psalm 18), I won't be moved. You are my Cornerstone (Psalm 118, Ephesians 2:20), whose love endures. With the sound of your voice, waters still (Matthew 8:27, Mark 4:41, Joshua 3:16, Psalm 23). With the touch of your robe, sick are healed (Zechariah 8:23; Mark 5:28, 3:10; Luke 6:19). And for You, Jesus, we all fall down. Your word, O Lord, is eternal, it stands firm. Your faithfulness continues through all the earth. All creation hangs on Your every Word.'
Their style of music reminds me of Jars of Clay, another popular christian band. Some years ago, I religiously listened to a christian radio station that also played popular christian music, so I got familiar with all of the artists. I got my CD three weeks ago from a local christian book store looking for a good praise CD but not knowing what would be good. A worker in the store recommended this one, saying that this CD, though several years old (2001), was still selling strong today-good advice because I totally love it! Praise music it is, starting off with a song entitled I Worship You and ending with In You, a song about the great wedding feast of Christ when He will be reunited, upon His return, with His bride (the church, or rather, the ones who actually do His will on earth). I don't know how many times I've listened to this CD, can't get tired of any of the songs (usually, I skip songs I don't like). If this CD is not MercyMe's best, their others must be phenomenal!
My personal favorite is How great is Your love: 'My heart is steadfast O God, and I will sing, with all my heart and soul, music for the King, and I will awake the dawn, with my praise to you O Lord, Praise the Lord, O my soul, and glory to the King, forever you are robed with majesty, we come to you O Lord, lay our praise at your feet'. The chorus repeats 'How great is Your love, so much higher than the heavens, with faithfulness that reaches the sky' which finds its echo all throughout scripture, most notably in Psalms and Isaiah. My next favorite is I can only imagine, a song about the surroundings of those who find themselves in Heaven in the unhidden presence of God: 'I can only imagine what it will be like when I walk by your side, I can only imagine what my eyes will see when your face is before me, I can only imagine'. The chorus goes 'Surrounded by Your glory what will my heart feel? Will I dance for You Jesus, or in awe of You be still? Will I stand in Your presence, or to my knees will I fall? Will I sing Hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all? I can only imagine, I can only imagine'.
The whole CD, to me, is like an hour long prayer which I keep on repeating! Here am I, although not my favorite, was Isaiah's literal response in 6:8 to God's eternal call throughout every age to His people as, His eyes wander to and fro throughout the whole earth, II Chronicles 16:9, searching for someone to answer: 'Whom shall I send, who will go for me, to the ends of the earth, who will rise up for the King?'
