Free Music Review: Missing Something
Hit: 4 Stars

I finally broke down and got my first Mercy Me CD at the beginning of the year. I immediately fell in love with their lyrics and style and quickly got their second release. By the time this CD came out, I was waiting anxiously to see where they went next.

Unfortunately, I wasn't as happy with this CD as with their first two. The lyrics seem to lack the passion and insight of their previous releases. And it might partially be that I've listened to too much Mercy Me to close together, but their style seems the same, and many of the songs just run together.

However, there are a few that do stand out. "Homesick" expertly summarizes the mourning that a Christian does. It deserves that success it had this year at the radio. "A Million Miles Away" caught my attention right away. I always need reminders that God is near, and this is a cleaver one. "Undone" is a poetic reminder of what God has given us in Christ. And "Keep Singing" is a very tender song of comfort and pressing on in the face of tragedy.

There are some songs that are well worth it on this CD, and fans will love it. For those interested in Mercy Me but unfamiliar with their music, I recommend you start with one of their other CD's.

Free Music Review: a great CD for your worship collection
Hit: 4 Stars

I was excited when I recognized the vocals of Mercy Me on a miainstream pop station recently - I was floored when I listened carefully to the lyrics. Per their previous efforts, their lyrics are honest and are a part of what appears to be some serious reflection... that's part of the power of it. The album has something to speak to you at various points of a faith journey - moments of strength ("blink of an eye") and moments where you need something to build you up ("homesick"). Their words are some strong medicine.

Musically the orchestrations are excellent and keep you wrapped up in the album almost the whole way through - I say "almost" because I felt the same way some other writers did, that the last bit of the album wasn't quite as strong. However it's all musically and spiritually powerful stuff, and definitely worth the investment.

Free Music Review: Sadly, somewhat dissapointed
Hit: 4 Stars

Although these men continue to show great evidence of their blessings through both musical and writing talent, I was hoping for something more. I think their last album, 'Almost There' (which I love) set the bar really high. That's not a bad thing, mind you, but this album seems like it's lacking something.

'A music fan from Davis, CA USA' summed up my thoughts pretty well:

"A music fan from Davis, CA USA
Mercyme has a hard act to follow. . . it's own. Nothing here tops their biggest hit "I Can Only Imagine," but this album is more consistently interesting than their first two efforts. [...] I was expecting some more rockin' tunes from the guys this time but they aren't here. You can't really go wrong with Mercyme, but I just thought this album would be more "right."

God bless them.

Free Music Review: This may take a couple spins
Hit: 4 Stars

I loved MercyMe's first 2 cd's so I eagerly grabbed up this one the same day it came out. I was left wanting on this one as my expectations were pretty high. I listened to it a 2nd time the next day and it got a little better but not much. I didn't listen to it again for months but when I did - and didn't have any expectations - I really enjoyed this cd. This cd seems to be one that improves the more you listen to it. The best song on the cd is 'homesick' which can be called a sister song to "I Can Only Imagine". The lyrics and message of homesick is amazing. I highly recommend picking up this album but also recommend just as highly to not have any preconceived notions on how amazing the album is going to be compared to their others.
