Free Music Review: Once The First Riff Kicks In, You'll Be Hooked From Then On

This is Meshuggah's Debut Album (Contradictions Collapse), and Second E.P (None), on one CD. Re-issued together in 1998, this is a die-hard fan of Meshuggah's dream. For all fans of Metal wanting to get into Meshuggah, i wouldn't start with this. Only because at first listen, it sounds a little 'primitive' compared to their newer releases. This Album does lean heavily towards Bay Area Thrash, which seemed to be huge at the time, but i think it still holds the traditional uniqueness about Meshuggah. The Solo's still sound very much like Meshuggah, in how they sound so 'Alien-like'..The riffs are constantly changing, and somewhat off-tempo, and the same with the drumming. The only difference is, they've just gotten more and more creative in their sound in all aspects.
The only fault i can put on this fantastic CD, is Jens Kidmans vocals. His vocals sound very 'beginner-like' compared to Meshuggah newer works. Which is obvious, as Meshuggah were pretty much starting out at the time. Other than that, fans of Meshuggah know what to expect. And to expect with this Album, if they haven't got it already.
The best songs i think, that most fans would enjoy, would be "Paralyzing Ignorance (The title of this review refers to this song..)", "Erroneous Manipulation", "Abnegating Cecity (Which they did a Video for, with Jens Kidman playing guitar and singing with his really long hair in front of his face..Before he got rid of the guitar, and the hair, and just concentrated on singing..)", "Qualms of Reality", "We'll Never See The Day", "Greed", "Cadeverous Mastication"..And the entire None E.P, which is just brilliant.
Most songs go over the 5 minute mark. Only 2 songs go for just over 4 minutes, and that's "Paralyzing Ignorance" (4:27) and "Choirs of Devastation" (4:00). The longest song is "Cadaverous Mastication" at (7:31). So be prepared to sit down and really feel the full effect of this awesomely heavy, and truly classic, Album.
For fans of Meshuggah who liked "Destroy, Erase, Improve" the most out of all their other Albums, you must check this Album out immediately. And for fans who liked "Chaosphere" up to their latest release, the insanely fantastic E.P "I", check this out too. It's totally worth it, so don't hesitate on buying this Album. And at the time when this came out, even if this Album leans heavily towards the Bay Area Thrash scene/genre, it was still unique in the traditional Meshuggah way. Which is why i believe Meshuggah are possibly the greatest known, but unknown, Metal band in the world. Ever since this came out, they've gone further and further into distancing themselves from all other genres and "similar" bands..And their unique heaviness just cannot be matched.
To all Meshuggah fans.. You need this in your collection if you call yourself a "Meshuggener".
