Free Music Review: Won ME over...One of the VERY BEST Metal CDs of 2008
Hit: 5 Stars

I never was a Meshuggah listener until I heard a sample track off of this CD. The track was "Bleed". I ordered the CD and found that all nine tracks are consistently as great as that track (though a bit similar - but that does not matter, because it is a terrific metal sound). My only complaint is I wish the vocals were just slightly more-haha!-clearly annunciated - I know, that's a laugh regarding death metal! But it's possible! I can clearly understand In Flames' vocalist, and he screams...but this CD really is a lot harder than In Flames' latest in all ways, as much as I enjoy the new In Flames CD. Surely, Meshuggah's "Obzen" is already one of the Top Five metal CDs of 2008, and will continue to be at year's end. I'm looking forward to what Opeth has up their sleeves in June, though...

Free Music Review: Not for the faint of heart...
Hit: 5 Stars

This is my introduction to Meshuggah, but I've ordered the rest of their CDs based on the excellence of this one. Like many others who have dug into Meshuggah, I've had to absorb their music over time to appreciate where they are and what they do. Needless to say, this isn't the kind of music that will survive a casual listen. Those looking for something immediately accessible, or at least more melodic, are advised to steer off and keep looking. For those who who can stick with it, and who appreciate a band that practically defines a new genre of metal, there is a magic moment when the noise fades away and the incredible depth and discipline of their music is exposed. That moment arrived for me after the third uninterrupted listen while driving to work. I get it and I love it.

Free Music Review: Meshuggah strikes again...
Hit: 5 Stars

You either love or hate Meshuggah. Meshuggah has an almost cult-like fan base. I own every Meshuggah CD in their catalog. The thing I like most about Obzen is the guitar tone and the overall production. It's ace. Not to mention the drums are thunderous as ever. "Obzen" is a perfect theme song for any UFC match or video. Tomas Haake owns the double bass during "Bleed". I suggest you buy a portable CD walk man, a good pair of headphones, and listen to this CD lying down relaxing in a dark room. It's a great exerience. It takes multiple listens before you fully grasp everything that's going on tempo and rhythmic wise, but once you get, feel, and embrace it, you'll be glad you did. Meshuggah will go down as one of the Gods of metal. Obzen is bone crushing heavy. Buy it...

Free Music Review: Meshuggah is THE METAL BAND
Hit: 5 Stars

Meshuggah is the number one band in the world, period!! Not only metal but also all other bands you can think of. Buy obZen and support these crazy Swedish guys because just the fact that a band like this exist is really something extraordinary. Every Meshuggah album is different from the older ones and this one is no exception, you can hear influences from older albums but just influences, that's it. What they have in common for sure is the capacity to evoke different feelings from you, it's really something amazing about them. What are you waiting for? Buy it, it's really worth. Can't wait to see them next month in Los Angeles.

Free Music Review: Not for everyone
Hit: 5 Stars

If you enjoy a catchy tune that gets stuck in your head the first time you hear it... If you enjoy simple, 3 1/2 minute tracks you can hum along with, you will despise this album and should refrain from listening...
But, if you enjoy a complex album that takes time to grow on you, you might enyoy obzen. You will not fully appreciate it the first time you hear it. Nor will you fully appreciate it the second time...
This album grows on you like a tree, slow and deliberate.
If you have a little anger inside and want to release it, crank up obzen and let loose... you will not be let down
