Free Music Review: Quite a sonic smorgasbord from these German weirdos

I first stumbled onto the great Metabolismus by way of the Box Dog label release from years back. After ordering all of the German import releases offered in the Blackjack catalog, I was quite pleased to see that the fine label had managed to release Terra Incognita in early 1999. And what a release it is. Beautiful flowing cosmic instumental work. Krautrock is an inevitable term to be thrown forth though any term with the word "rock" in it is pushing it with this release. However, Faust is a good reference point. After listening to Terra Incognita one will ponder even more the possible Germany-Saturn connection. And is Sun Ra secretly a black German? And will someone fix me another White Russian? Metabolismus' Terra Incognita sounds at times like an otherwordly keyboard laden take on oriental sounds such as Japanese Koto. At other times you are enjoying the trance inducing sounds of a down hill bike ride on a seldom traveled country road when all of the sudden Peter Thomas drives by in a space age luxury sedan with Fuxa emitting from the vehicle. In all, my only complaint about this release is my same complaint about traveling; it could have been longer. Terra Incognita will fit nicely into your multiple CD player with the likes of Faust and David Toop's Museum of Fruit.
