J'Irai Cheir Dans Ton Vomi PosterSurprise! An all-new album from the original cyberpunks, METAL URBAIN from France. Of all the '77 Euro punk bands, METAL URBAIN were the weirdest: two guitars and scathing synth noises, no drum kit or bass, with salvos angry French vocals. Once the novelty wore off, the listener can hear that METAL URBAIN didn't just occupy the outer edge of avant-punk, but were indeed a great rock-n-roll band with an endless repertoire of classic riffs. Their indelible influence in France led to a tradition of drum machine punk bands with some-like Berurier Noir and Ludwig Von 88-who became much bigger than METAL URBAIN, though none were as nasty or pointedly political. Biafra, who discovered the band as a traveling "teenage hippie" in France, says: "As far as I'm concerned, Charles de Goal, Kas Product . . . and even Big Black owe their very existence to METAL URBAIN." METAL URBAIN reformed in 2003 for a US tour supporting their Anarchy in Paris! anthology on Acute Records. Last spring, the band enlisted longtime fan Jello Biafra to produce an album of all new material, recorded in San Francisco at Hyde Street Studios with engineer Matt Kelley (Digital Underground, George Clinton, The Coup, Tumor Circus, Victims Family). The result is unmistakably METAL URBAIN, upping the ante with 21st century technology and influences from later key bands, who, in a bout of circular logic, were ultimately influenced by METAL URBAIN. The new lineup includes original members Eric Debris and Hermann Schwartz with new recruits Olivier Votelet and JZr(tm)me Sauleau. This is no longer nostalgia, but once again a band of the future, sure to appeal to fans of the old METAL URBAIN, as well as Killing Joke, Ministry, Berurier Noir, Atari Teenage Riot, Suicide, etc. Bon Appetit!Hard Rock & Metal Music CDs |
