Free Music Review: they got their nads back
Hit: 5 Stars

ive heard all the hype , master of puppets , ride the lightning, etc. sorry folks , this album is a welcome throw back to kill em' all. piss n' vinegar ,motorhead influenced shot to the jaw, i cannot tell you how pleasent it has been actually listening to this album. wiplash riffing all over the place, ballsy bouncing bass playing[ actually somewhat audible] i mean i want to seek and destroy, and have no remorse about it either, damn this is great, the last truly killer song metallica made was sad but true, and maybe of wolf and man, on the black album, i always liked kill em' all best, it was the rawest , most visceral sound they ever had. once mustain was gone that sound faded to black, so to speak.i wander what ole dave is thinkin, he has to be impressed, every once in a while a riff or feeling of the load albums creep in. lets be honest the last 3 albums in total were pretty pedestrian, i always thought if you took the best of all three ,you could have had a classic 80 min. disc. either way, no filler here, not one bad track , im excited. the future of metallica just may be bright. i can guaren damn tee , ill be at the live shows. havent been since 92 i believe. every song is so damn good i cant really pick one. the judas kiss , broken beat and scarred, the end of the line, really resonate, the unforgiven 3 intro surprised me. reminded me of opeth a little i would have said the unforgiven 3 was the weakest track here. [to load like] and made for radio. but the last third with the killer solo saves the song. i know this sounds like a fanboy review ,forgive me, i deserted metallica 12 years ago after load, i feel some of the old fire is back . and i love it. i hope this is a trend, this album has a raw, live. underproduced vibe to it. like a live recording. like kill em' all ive even clinched my fists and grit my teethe a few times.it also has made me reach back to the first 5 albums again and understand how monumental this band was. and master of puppets , is still the masterpiece. but death magnetic is certainly worthy of the first 5, it realy touches all the previous albums , leaning heavily on kill em' all. ill tell you this , i hvent heard anything this good this year, with opeths watershed being somewhat a dissapointment compared to ghost reveries, this has been a shot to the gut , metallica is back, and i am so ready for more.

Free Music Review: the masters return
Hit: 5 Stars

i have been waiting for this one for 20 years and i dont regret the
this one is the 6th masterpiece from the masters, they were the metal kings and they left the door open for 20 years, but no other band had quality to replace them on the top spot,so they they came back to take they're place again....i am a big fan but if load and reload had some great songs,st.anger was a bad record, and even i that love metallica could not like that one.....
when rick rubin took metallica by the hand,i knew that death magnetic would be good becouse rubin is the best metal producer for many years and he always wanted to work with metallica....well,the best work with the best!!!
death magnetic:
i knew the record would be good but,it is not good it is a masterpiece, the more you listen to it,the more you love the songs.
track list:
that was just your life-best opener since blackened,it grows on you and james voice is amazing 10/10
the end of the line- this one has a great bass intro, but has got a ''load'' feel on it,and this one is to me the weakest song on the album 8/10
broken,beat,scarred-great riff reminds me of ''harvester of sarrow'' great lyrics and amazing guitar work,it is on of the best 10/10
the day that never comes-the power ballad type song that only metallica can deliver, great song simply amazing. 10/10
all nightmare long- my favorite track on the album, great intro, fast guitars, great lyrics,well.......metallica
10/10
cyanide-catchy tune, great bass and one of the heavy chorus. 10/10
the unforgiven III-this one is just amazing, maybe not has good has unforgiven I,but better than unforgiven II,great piano intro and amazing lyrics by james. 10/10
the judas kiss-my second favorite next to all nightmare long, just classic metallica 10/10
suicide and redemption- I miss the instrumental songs a lot and this one is just great, maybe not has good has ''orion'' but close. 10/10
my apocalypse- you will love this one if you love ''battery''or''damage inc'' just another metallica speed metal classic 10/10

metallica are back to form, and death magnetic will be one of your favorite albums like the first,so hurry up and buy it,becouse it will be a bestseller for sure......
it is metallica what do you expect?

Free Music Review: Completetly Shocking Return to Form!
Hit: 5 Stars

First off I am pretty blown away by this album! I just picked it up this morning and expected I would have to listen to it multiple times before I could form an opinion. But from the opening dark ringing notes of the first track 'That Was Just Your Life' I instantly felt the nostalgia of classic albums like Master, Ride, and Justice!

Wow, I really didn't think they could do it? I am not saying this album is as good as those, only time will tell, but just the fact that it can be mentioned in the same breath as those is shocking to me!

First off this is one heavy album! Like old Metallica, there are riffs everywhere, timechanges, long dynamic songs, and Kirk Hammet rips off furious leads everywhere like he has just been released from the oppressed prison that he's been contained in for the last 16 years! And songs like 'That Was Just Your Life', 'The End of the Line', 'All Nightmare Long', and 'The Judas Kiss'(Killer Chorus!), just take you back!

Some have complained about the production, but it sounds great to me! Very heavy and in your face! At least in my car stereo anyway, I may notice this when I load onto my i-pod or something?

I have never hated on the band, nor am I a Metallica fanboy. I am a metal fan first and foremost so I judge albums on their own merit. But as a metal fan I just didn't enjoy Load, Reload, or St. Anger at all. I, like most metal fans, held Metallica in high regard until they totally dropped all traces of metal-ness and started making radio rock with Load. As a lifelong metal fan I really felt betrayed and struggled with the fact that Metallica sold out so bad. It kinda felt like I was cheated on. It was even hard for me to listen to the classic Metallica albums knowing what they had become now. Well this album definatly brings back the fonder memories I have for Metallica, and I never thought that would happen again honestly.

I can't imagine any long time fan not liking this album? This is exactly what we've all been asking of Metallica for the last 16 years! Go back to playing the thrash metal of your roots! Now they have finally done it! Even it is not as good as the first 4 masterpieces at least it's darn close and at this stage of the game I'll take that anyday over another Load or St Anger!

Free Music Review: Metallica-again doing what They want..with awesome results!
Hit: 5 Stars

On Death Magnetic,Metallica prove that they are back in a big way! Actually, though, they never went anywhere.Allow me to explain:
Here is a brief history of there discography:1982-Kill em all-solid debut of California style thrash.
1984-Ride the lightning-an significant improvement over Kill em all, showing longer songs, and improved instumentation.
1986-Master of puppets-arguabley their finest moment.
1988-And justice for all-IMO their finest album in terms of songs, however, somewhat marred by poor production.
1991-Black album- a much more commercial sounding, rock album.
1994-Live @!$#-binge and purge-box set of live material
1996-Load- a continuation of the style first seen on the black album.More blues orientated.
1997-Re-load-Not b-sides as some have claimed, but songs that were not yet finished when Load was recorded.Much more experimental in nature.
1998-Garage Inc-collection of cover songs from entire career.
1999-S&m-Live album featuring band with the San Francisco symphony with orchestrations from Michael Kamen. The only Metallica album I cant stomach(sorry, but as a classical music fan,and musician,Kamen's orchestration's are horrible)!
2003-St.anger-Much maligned, raw underproduced return to roots.I am probably one of the few that actually Liked this album.
Now that I have summarized their album's,let me just say that Metallica have always done Exactly what they have wanted to do.
On this album,Rick Rubin has persuaded them to return to the sound of Master,Justice. However,to me,it is really a combination of all their previous work.
As for the production, well,I havent yet listened to it on headphones yet,but it sounded great on my stereo.
As for the songs themselves,I won't give a track by track breakdown, but I will just say that I love them all!(The exception being Unforgiven 3,which I find interesting in that people seem to like this song, despite not liking the Load album. This is the one song that Metallica would not have done in the '80's)
All this being said,I do think that this is their strongest work in 20 years(although I love All their album's(except S&m).
Metallica has returned to some, but to me they just continue to make great music,as always!

Free Music Review: Fantastic return to form. Should have come right after Justice.
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been a Metallica fan for quite some time. The first album of theirs I bought was Ride the Lightning back in the early 80's. I've continued to buy all their releases, even through the time when most of their early fans abandoned them. You either liked the early stuff, and hated the post Black Album material, or you only liked the newer stuff. Hardly did you ever find a Metallica fan that liked both. I'm one of the latter. I liked both. They had a different feel on the latter albums, but I still liked it. Having said that, since I grew up with albums like Puppets & Justice, I did long for an album like that again. We sort of got it with St Anger (rather underrated), but Death Magnetic was it.

This is the album they should have made after And Justice For All. This feels like old school Metallica, yet with modern production values. Normally when I write one of these things, I say which tracks I like, and why. But I'm not doing that. This disc is totally solid (save for one song which I'll talk about in a bit) from front to back. The first track just starts off with that "WHAM", and it doesn't let you go. It's one of those discs that when I was listening to it in my truck and it finished, I just let it repeat. It's fantastic. Has the twin guitar sound, there's solos again, and we have some good Lars drums. By far and away, not even funny - the best thing since 1989.

The one track I don't care for is "The Unforgiven III". Musically it doesn't fit with anything else on the album. Now that I can deal with - most albums have a track that doesn't sound like the rest of the album. That's not why. I don't like it for two reasons. First, I just don't care for the tune. Secondly is the title. If you're going to bother calling something a "three", then it would stand to reason that it would bear some resemblance to the two previous entries that bear it's namesake. This does not. I totally fail to see why it's called "Unforgiven 3", it might as well been called "Random Other Song", and it would have worked better, I think.

However, that's just one track. All the others are bloody well fantastic. If you are a Metallica fan, and gave up on them awhile back - this is what you have wanted. It's a Metallica renaissance. Go get it.
