Free Music Review: Haunting and melodic

If you're looking for the cd with Duran Duran's Notorious, Tears for fears, Echo and the Bunnyman's the killing moon and Under the the milky way then the U.S version is not the way to go. Its basically just the movies scoring, which is beautiful anyhow, but devoid of all the written songs of above. Only problem is that the imported version has the songs, except for Gary Jules Mad World. Trust me, you don't want to go without that song.
Its kind of a lose-lose situation unfortuantly
Lovely scoring, my favorite track being the Liquid spear waltz, its so haunting and moody.....Buy both versions of the soundtrack if you can, I highly recommand both
Free Music Review: Magnificent, an excellent companion piece to the film

Before, I was never into film scores until I came across the Lost Highway soundtrack (which featured songs from various bands and mostly compositions from Angelo Badalamneti) and then a few years later the Memento soundtrack (both of which are strongly recommended). Then after seeing the film Donnie Darko, I was blown away with the score from the film and immediately tracked this down. Michael Andrews' excellent compositions capture the moody, emotional tone of the film perfectly, and Gary Jules' cover of "Mad World" is beyond heart wrenching. All in all, whether your a fan of the film or of film scores in general, you should definitely pick this up, you won't regret it.Free Music Review: great, only if you have an appreciation for the movie

I really enjoyed this score, but if you are looking for the 80's music in the movie, then this is not what you want. But, if your like me and you saw the movie, then this soundtrack is perfect. This cd is for the people who *have* seen the movie. The only reason they didnt make a cd of the 80's music in the movie, is beacuase of a lack of funds. The movie was an independent film, even though the budget was 5 million. It would have cost much more to license all the 80's songs in the movie. But still, the scorse is just as good. As you listen to the songs, you can almost see the movie. The composition of the songs are great and they truly capture what is going on in this unique film.Free Music Review: Soothing musical score for a disturbing film

great musical score for the disturbing film about a troubled teenage boy. the majority of the soundtrack has a dramatic, yet soothing sound, full of quite emotional feeling changes. i bought this mainly for my sons, who loved the the remake of the tune by "tears for fears." roland orzibal's "mad world" is covered by gary jules. most musical remakes fall short of the original; this one exceeds it, and is perfect for the film's tragic figure and his untimely ending. the song is haunting and emotionally performed by jules. worth the purchase just to enjoy jules rendition of "mad world," which was recently re-introduced to us on the "gears of war" game trailer.Free Music Review: Wow. Donnie Darko itself is the number one movie on my list....No no no I do not have short standards, it just appealed to me on a very high level. As for the score, one couldn't have asked for anything better. Michael Andrews has done a stunning job of incorporating exceptional 80's piece music with some modernized beats. Some of the most eerie and harrowing pieces of music I have heard in a long time. It is by far one of my most favorite scores out there. It's just too bad they ran short to also produce a soundtrack. The 80's element within the film really helped create the setting and time. Oh well, there's always a bootleg cut. :)
