Free Music Notes for Donnie Darko (Score)Free Music Review: "Mad World" - Strangely Hypnotic Hit: 5 Stars
It's very difficult to put into words... Each of us has experienced a song that we really like... so we keep playing it (or keep hearing it on the radio) until you get sick of it. Some how, Gary Jules version of "Mad World" doesn't get "tired". I can listen to it as background music all day and never be like "I can't listen to this anymore!". I really can't explain why. It's a shame it's such a short piece. I suppose it's particulary poignant because they lyrics so suite my daily, mind numbing, commute to work. "Bright and Early for the Daily Races... Going Nowhere... Going Nowhere".
Free Music Review: Hauntingly Beautiful, amazing debut for Michael Andrews Hit: 5 Stars
Wherever Michael Andrews might be, I'd like to thank him for releasing such an inspirational album. With this amazing start he has jumped straight to my "I will buy every single Album this particular Film Composer releases good or bad " category. It is rare to hear that some people still believe in the beauty of simple sounds as opposed to the over-loaded orchestral-heavy soundtracks out there. Simple yet magic. Some soundtracks strictly remind you of the film they belong to, others can be used as tools for writing but his is in the third type which I call: "A Musical Voyage".
Free Music Review: In a Parallel Universe... Hit: 5 Stars
This score is simply brilliant. The perfect accompaniment to an equally amazing film. It really takes you on an atmospheric journey to the strangest and most beautiful places in your mind. The mix of synthesizers along with more traditional piano and chorus is perfect. I have listened to this CD about three times every day since I got it two weeks ago. Although it is short, every second is absolutely stunning. My personal favorites are "Manipulated Living" and "Rosie Darko." The "Mad World" cover is heartbreaking. Worth every penny.
Free Music Review: Chilling and beautiful Hit: 5 Stars
I, personally, love instrumental music. But it's beautiful, because you can feel each note in every song. And if you saw the movie then you understand what kind of vibe the music is giving off. It's rather lonely and depressing, but it makes you think. It seems kinda creepy, but all the notes go perfect together, creating a beautiful piece of work.
By the way, does anyone know what any of the other songs are called? I found THE CHURCH and TEARS FOR FEARS, but what are the other ones in the movie? If yall could help, that'd be nice! Thanks!
Free Music Review: Eerie and Satisfying Hit: 5 Stars
Just as the movie leaves you wanting to talk to someone else about their interpretation, the music too leaves much up to you. Calming and discomforting at the same time this soundtrack is the perfect mix to relax to on one of those not so normal days. The melodies and rythms bring back many memories from the film, ideas which are perfectly represented in the music. I highly reccomend this if you enjoyed the movie and want to have one more thing to remember it by. It reminds me greatly of the Thomas Newman score that accompanied American Beauty.
