Free Music Notes for Donnie Darko (Score)

Free Music Review: As Mysterious And Mystical As The Movie
Hit: 5 Stars

I enjoyed Donnie Darko very much, from it being a unknown movie to it's almost cult like following now. The film requires several viewings to get at it's layered center, the score helped set the tone for many of the scenese. This is not the soundtrack, but you can easily find a list of what songs where in the movie to make your own Soundtrack. This is the SCORE which like any great movie is the orchestral movements that advance the picture. Included is three versions of "MAD WORLD" and one of them being a hidden track #19.

Free Music Review: Beautifully haunting....
Hit: 5 Stars

I've just seen the movie on HBO and am blown away. I am a huge fan of the movie Bladerunner and owned two LP's of the soundtrack but wore them out on my turntable and had to replace them with a CD. Vangelis, updated the soundtrack and it is by far the most memorable soundtrack out there, but I must give the composer his due on this one. It is a must have in every collection. Like the Bladerunner CD, I don't think you can play it at a festive gathering, but for solitary comtemplation, it is perfect. What a movie! What a score!

Free Music Review: A True Gem
Hit: 5 Stars

A great film made great by such infectous music. I'm so glad to see it's finally available. Mellotron and a broken down piano lead the score through an auditory journey of time travel. And it's capped by the excellent end title song "Mad World" sung by Gary Jules. Tears for Fears never knew how potent that song could sound. Also a bonus remix version of the song makes this a definite milestone in my collection of great scores including Betty Blue, The Moderns, Magnolias, and old classics from Morricone and Mancini.

Free Music Review: Spooky and beautiful!
Hit: 5 Stars

If you like the music of Danny Elfman, this CD is for you. The music is just as haunting as his work. It reminds me somewhat of the soundtrack for Sleepy Hollow with the vocals. The piano solos are just gorgeous. The music fits the film perfectly, none of the "random tossing music in because we can". If you haven't already seen the film, you probably should watch it so you get a sense of the music. I don't think I've come across a soundtrack that further engages you into the ambiance than this one. It's just too good!

Free Music Review: Magnifique!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Donnie Darko is by far the most marvelous, hanuting, and thought provoking film I've ever seen. It is a must-see for anyone who enjoys an all-around AMAZING movie. The score defines the mood - the movie would be practically a lost cause without it. I would reccomend it to anyone - even if they haven't seen Donnie Darko. Please note: this is the score - not the soundtrack. It does not include the various '80s pop songs featured in the film. However, that does not dissappoint me, and I'm sure it doesn't anyone else.
