Free Music Notes for Caught In The ActFree Music Review: "I want to thank the gentleman way over there for grabbing my ass like that" Hit: 5 Stars
Michael Buble has developed an appealing rapport with his audience as well as charming performing antics that truly captivates and enthralls his listeners. The first time I saw him perform he wasn't exactly as playful as he is now. He has grown into a more connected and impassioned and funny and charming performer. And as a vocalist he interprets each song with simple yet heartfelt emotions beautifully complimented by his melodious and rich tone as well as his impeccable phrasing and diction.
The first single of his second album "Feeling Good" appropriately kicked off the show. I love this song very much, the arrangement was very classy and Buble's suave and cool voice fits the song quite well. His "Try a Little Tenderness" was subdued and heartfelt, the simplicity of his rendition brought out the beauty of the song even more. He then sang "You Don't Know Me/That's All" back to back, two of my all time favorite songs. He obviously loved the songs and the sincerity in his interpretations was evident.
Laura Pausini and Buble did a sexy duet of "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine". I wish they did Quando, Quando, Quando though too, that was one of my favorite tracks in his "It's Time" Album. Josh Groban had an amusing brief appearance when Buble started to mimic Groban's voice and stage mannerisms. He then proceeded to an amusing rendition of Maroon 5's "This Love". Vocally he was really out of his element even though the song was arranged big band style. But you've got to take the number the way it was intended which was to have fun with a pop song.
Other highlights are his suave and cool rendition of "I've Got You Under My Skin", the upbeat "Save the Last Dance for Me" and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and the final song of the evening "Song for You". I also would like to point out how lovely the lighting was in the concert. I don't normally notice that kind of thing but in this concert, the lights really enhanced the mood and atmosphere of the show. I really think it was wonderful, just like the whole concert.

I only recently became familiar with Buble when I heard him sing as a guest on a Chris Botti album. I saw this DVD/CD available at the local library so I thought I'd check it out. I am very impressed with his abilities as a vocalist. He has a great stage presence and is reminiscent of Frank Sinatra. Some of the arrangements are the original arrangements by the artists who made the songs popular, and Buble does a great job following in their footsteps. Obviously, by the crowd reaction on this DVD, as well as by the fact that his albums are currently on the top of the jazz charts, he has a lot of supportive fans.
I must admit, the only somewhat negative comment that I have to say about Buble's singing, that he has a slight lisp at times that is a little annoying. I noticed that it seemed to come and go from song to song, and was more prominent when he sang then when he talked. Besides that, he has a great voice.
The band rocked out on here. Another thing I like about Buble is that he is very humble and always acknowledges the band members and their contributions. Michael Buble is on a ride right now towards fame, and he is enjoying every minute of it. He has solidified his position as the new male voice of jazz with this DVD/CD. I look forward to hearing other musical contributions by him.
There is one more side note that I'd like to make. This was released as a CD + DVD set. In my opinion, the extra CD really doesn't need to be included. I think he should have just released it as a DVD. The CD is only 30 minutes long, and is not as exciting to listen to as the DVD is to watch. I have become kind of a sucker for music DVD's lately because they are just as compact as CD's yet they have visual as well as audio. I suppose that releasing it as a CD + DVD is a somewhat unique marketing strategy, which could be why it was released as a CD + DVD set.
Free Music Review: It's A New Life, It's A New Day Hit: 5 Stars
I saw Michael's PBS special two nights ago and I was completely blown away. I've heard of his name before (He did commentary on VH1's I Love The 80's), but I never heard his music or seen him perform. Now I know what I've been missing. This guy is amazing!! He takes Standard and classic songs, and puts a new sound to them. After seeing this special I of course I had to run out and buy the CD/DVD "Caught in the Act." This performance if fantastic from the first note to the very last. I love the interaction he has with his audience. The PBS special didn't show him going into the audience to greet his fans, I thought that was really cool. This guy is funny, he has a great personality, easy on the eyes and of course has an AMAZING voice, all that comes out on the DVD. His renditions of these Standards gives me a whole new appreciation for this type of music. He did a little interview with PBS and he talked about bringing in a new sound to these songs for a new generation. I couldn't agree more. Many people (myself included) thought these songs were for the older generation, boy was I wrong. I've since downloaded his 1st two albums, and I'm still in awe. He covers Frank Sinatra and Peggy Lee, then goes to Queen and George Michael! It's obvious he has a great appreciation for many different types of music and that reflects his own music. My only criticism of this package is that five songs on the CD are not on the DVD. PBS showed "Can't Buy Me Love" and that was a highlight for me, but it's not on the DVD. On the flip side of that, only three songs from the DVD are on the CD, I would've really loved it if Maroon 5's "This Love"was on the CD. Other than that, the package is Great. I've already started my campaign to get my friends to listen to Michael's music. I can see him having a long career. Buy this CD/DVD, you wont regret it.
Free Music Review: Bubleland is the place to be Hit: 5 Stars
I first saw Michael Buble at the Blue Note - one of his first big gigs, I think, back in 2003. It was obvious from his first note that he was a gifted, funny, enthusiastic singer, with great rapport - and respect - for his audience. I saw him again in Boston at Scullers, then at Foxfoods in CT, where the band and the arrangements were becoming more powerful and dynamic and, finally, at the Beacon in NYC, where his show blew the lid off the place. The audiences, of all ages, had grown, and so had his talent and ease on stage. What is amazing is how he is able to bridge several musical genres - and make them all come alive for such a diverse audience. The standout songs, among many, are "Home," his own composition, "Sway," the Dean Martin classic; "A Song For You," which is given an absolutely superb treatment; and "I've Got You Under My Skin," with the famous Nelson Riddle arrangement. And so many more. This CD/DVD literally captures it all and, best of all, leaves you wanting more. The songs and arrangements are given first class treatment. The musicians are all top shelf - and are themselves given opportunities to shine beyond their musical gifts. And then, of course, there is Buble himself - directly in line with the best, Sinatra, Crosby, Bennett, you name it. He has complete command of his material and his joy and humor make him one of our best entertainers. He should have his own weekly variety show. Or a series of specials.
When this terrific DVD is finally shown on PBS, it will be the beginning of a beautiful friendship between this star and his growing audience. For the price, you simply cannot go wrong here: an absolutely terrific DVD concert, almost as good as seeing Buble live, and a collection of 8 live tunes that will instantly put you into a great mood. He's the Sinatra of our day - and we need him.
Free Music Review: The Standards at their best since sung by 'Old Blue Eyes' Hit: 5 Stars
If you like the old Sinatra era standards, or modern songs sung with a great Big Band sound in that same genre, but updated to modern standards of audio perfection, you will love this dvd/cd collection by Michael Buble' and his big band. Michael is simply the best of the new crooners who has dug up, dusted off, and remixed the whole crooner style with a modern and up to date polished edge. He is totally sincere in his love for these songs and the genre he is singing, and his enthusiasm for this style of music is simply infectious.
Even if you were not one who thought much of this style to begin with, you'll be tapping your hands and feet along with the beat on these familiar melodies and originals. He also has a few guest performers who share the stage with him for a few duets. His charm and connection with the audience is that of an old trusted hand who genuinely enjoys performing and treats his audience like close friends... even the video audience (this was a taped PBS special). Young and old alike will enjoy watching this honest and mature performer... one you can watch with the whole family, wholesome but classy. The guy just exudes class, but it is real and not pretentious.
And the man's musical delivery of his songs is without par. He truly is in a class by himself. A world class talent. Simply the best! He will renew your faith that in a world of crappy rap, hip-slop, and irritating dog-done-died country twangers and head banging bs, there are still true artists out there who create wonderful musical performances that demonstrate the best of what humans can do when they set their minds to creating, singing, and playing enjoyable music.
Not to be missed! if he comes to your town RUN to get tickets!!!
