Free Music Notes for Come Fly With Me (CD & DVD)Free Music Review: Damn! Plus about 10 more stars Hit: 5 Stars
Every once and a while a singer comes along whose voice sounds more experienced than his years such is the case for Michael Buble' add to that his boyish good looks and your in trouble. To use a phrase that is often reserved for Barbara Striesand, his voice is like butter. To say he sounds like Sinatra is not doing him justice, he excells Sinatra in my book. There are songs you associate with singers but Michael overwites that association. Take Peggy Lee's standard Fever, Michael did and knocked it for a loop as far as I am concerned the song is his from now on. Jim Morrison's Moondace has been recorded by other Jazz and pop singers like Sting. Michael takes the song and makes it his. I fault the CD in the set for leaving some of the best off and the sound goes to pot halfway through the Roger's and Hart song My Funny Valentine and for the rest of the CD it is at best bearable. On the DVD that comes with the set you see why the sound goes to pot the microphone is halfway down in from of him. He does a good job on Mack the Knife on the CD and DVD but that song is safely Bobby Darrin's. He is not as emotional as George Michael is on his song Kissing a Fool but they are great. Sway makes you want to get up and do a Mombo. He is a great entertainer, a master showman. If your a rocker, you will not like Michael, if your tastes run along jazz lines you'll love Michael. The only thing that bothers me is that I am going to have to by his Enhanced CD to get the rest of the songs that should have been on this one.
Free Music Review: Perfect Package Hit: 5 Stars
What a package! The CD is great and it offers a chance to compare studio versions with the DVD live versions of the same songs. Mega bonus here....the DVD has three of the "sessions@AOL" songs! "The Way You Look Tonight" will break your heart!
The DVD has one flaw which makes it appear that it was edited by someone on a really strange acid trip! The constant cut aways from Michael singing on stage are a bit annoying but many of the cuts go straight to footage of Michael talking about many different aspects of his life and they are quite interesting. The main fault is that when you do see Michael singing in concert, the cuts, superimpositions and the speed with which they are carried out left me with the distinct feeling that the producer/director/editor of the film footage did not feel that a straight-on shot of Michael could hold a Bublé fan's attention for more than three seconds. Proof positive that they didn't know squat about Michael's fans and also that they should never be allowed to work on a video project concerning Michael ever again. Fortunately the up close and personal shots of Michael talking about his life/career provide some redemption for the psychedelics of the editing.
It's beautifully packaged and on the inside, it has the famous photo of Michael showing off two buttons worth of his chest and it's 5X5!
Free Music Review: A question of personal taste Hit: 5 Stars
This CD plus DVD is reasonably great. It gives you different versions of what michael have done. One may wonder why the evaluation varies so greatly people either love it or hate it. Well, I would say, the "concert" DVD is not meant to be listen as if you were in a concert hall but as a showcase of many facets of michael. It's so great to be seeing him as a real person, talking to you and in the meanwhile listeing to samples of his songs. So, don't complain that you can have a frame stay steady for three minutes, because it never meant to be so. It is only that this style is not your cup of tea. Besides, there are a track in DVD that show steady shot on michael sings many of his songs-- that part is great too and like a chamber concert. Last but not least, about his style similar to Frank Siniatra and Elvis etc. Well, no body sing like no one sing before. Similarity is unavoidable. Art is in the sublty. If you can find the distinct subtle difference between michael and those past great singers, I can only say sorry for your ear and taste. Basically, this album is for those who are more interested in Michael the person, in addition to his songs.
Free Music Review: He Can Sing Anything Hit: 5 Stars
My friends and I have seen Michael perform live at venues in the US, Canada and England. We are in the mid 30's - 40's age range and totally devoted. He is one of the most unique entertainers I have ever seen. His voice is simply golden, mellow, contagious. He can sing just about anything and have your attention. The DVD is representative of who he is, a charismatic, friendly, fun-loving guy who has a real heart. I find him totally 'refreshing'. There are some cuts on the DVD that simply don't showcase his vocals enough, but if you have seen him perform live and have listened to his self-entitled CD, the DVD is another dimension to his natural talent and showcases the insides of who he is as a person. His band is not only talented, but very obviously devoted to him and he likewise adores them and treats them with the utmost of respect and recognition. As far as I can see it, he will have a long lasting career just being who he is...a genuine, fun-loving guy with a voice that will go on forever. Keep up the good work, Michael.
Free Music Review: Legend in the Making Hit: 5 Stars
If you have been lucky enough to be in the audience when Mr. Michael Bublé performs, you KNOW he is destined for international stardom on the fasttrack. If you haven't had the opportunity yet, get this hip and fun dvd now! I read comments on his board this morning and see I'm not alone in my appraisal of his vocal talent or his sex appeal....... Here is a quote from someone on his board that really closely describes how I feel: "I always felt a bit cheated in the past....I was only 5 when Elvis died, I was too young to catch Sinatra, Martin or Davis Junior in concert, and it seemed that there would never be another world class star in my lifetime. Thats what I thought until last night!! Michael is truly in the league of these past legends." I couldn't have said it any better myself. Now after viewing this dvd 4 times, and listening to the cd 10 times, I can't wipe the smile off my face. Big smile!
