Free Music Review: GREAT new singer picks up the torch from Sinatra & Darin
Hit: 5 Stars

When Frank Sinatra died in 1998 a question was: would the death of the man considered by many to be the 20th century's Greatest Singer signal the end of his kind of music? Would it vanish because there weren't enough people born after his generation to carry on his painstakingly developed style of music?

Now we have the answer: a resounding NO. In recent years, talented non-Sinatra generation singers such as Michael Civeska, Peter Cincotti, Debbie Campbell, Steve Tyrell, kd Lang (especially in her CD with Tony Bennett) ...and now Michael Buble...have proven they learned The Old Master's vocal lessons quite well. His kind of music may be mostly banished from mass entertainment TV and radio airwaves...but it is indeed alive and QUITE well, and called "classic pop." It thrives in concerts, some clubs and a host of new CDs.

Enter Buble, a 28-year-old Canadian admittedly (and clearly) heavily influenced by Bobby Darin and, to a lesser degree, by Sinatra. In this, his first highly hyped CD that is coupled with a critically acclaimed concert tour (I have been in several cities where he has been and seen the rave reviews) he shows that he mastered one of Darin's key qualities: the ability to put his own stamp on classic pop music while also drawing on more contemporary tunes and genres.

There isn't a bad song on this CD, although....like with Darin....Buble seems to soar on classic pop songs and not-quite-soar as high on newer ones adapted to his more traditional style. His vocal style is highly pleasing, ranging from soft-romantic, to near-rock, to a virtual phrase-by-phrase duplication of Sinatra, depending on the song. He has a nice voice and knows how to use it. Orchestrations are state-of-the-art, providing a perfect backdrop for each vocal..

Best songs here include a new twist on Peggy Lee's "Fever," a rousing Sinatra-style "For Once In My Life" (sounds in parts like the original arrangement), a superb rendition of Sinatra's "The Summer Wind" (the arrangement again sounding at times like the original while Buble uses his own style), "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," wonderful renditions of "Sway" and "The Way You Look Tonight" -- and his crowning achievement, a near phrase-by-phrase duplication of Sinatra's "Come Fly With Me," which retains every single ounce of youthful pizzazz and optimism that marked Sinatra's original. It concludes with a touching, bittersweet rendition of his vocal idol Darin's "That's All." Darin must be smiling.

You know Buble is a major talent when his CD's executive producer is the legendary Paul Sands and it's on the Reprise label (founded by Sinatra and later bought by Warner
Bros.). Buble clearly has a huge future ahead of him. He not only has picked up the torch from Sinatra and the ill-fated Darin but he has successfully used some of their techniques
in some of the more contemporary songs on this CD. Some of those don't work as well as the classic songs -- but everything here definitely WORKS. We'll be seeing -- and hearing -- a lot from Buble in the future.

Free Music Review: This CD I have never gotten tired of...
Hit: 5 Stars

I first heard this guy's voice on the Down With Love CD after I starting liking the song "Kissing a Fool." I found out it was Michael Buble, and I ordered the CD.

After a week of listening to it in the car, I was able to sing with every song.

Fever - While listening to this song you can just imagine him sneering at you speaking about the fever. The whole song seems seductive and is fun to listen to and play for friends.

Moondance - This one isn't the most powerful, but it's fun to listen to nonetheless.

Kissing a Fool - This song is awesome! I first heard it on the Down With Love CD, and it's the reason for buying this CD. Its slower tempo is really moving. It's one of the best on the CD.

For Once in my Life - I really enjoy the big band in this one. It's another fun song.

How Can You Mend a Broken Heart - This selection is definitely one of the best on the CD. Someone before mentioned that it was silly and ungenuine. I think Buble does a remarkble job singing this song. I listen to it all the time. There's just something about it that puts me in a good mood.

Summer Wind - I'm not a fan of this song - it just seems boring.

You'll Never Find Another Love - This one sort of flows and puts you in a good mood. The backup singing adds a lot to its flowing characteristics.

Crazy Little Thing Called Love - I do like this song, but I reburned the CD without it. Why? There is an ANNOYING bell that plays in the background. It makes it almost unbearable to listen to.

Put Your Head on my Shoulder - This song is great! It flows and just puts you in a good mood.

Sway - This song is a lot of fun. I can listen to this over and over. It just makes you want to sing along with it. I love what Buble does with his voice in it. One of the best!

The Way You Look Tonight - This is another one of the flowing songs. It's a little boring, but it's not the worst.

Come Fly With Me - I really like this one. His voice is so awesome in it. I love the band in the background. Good song!

That's All - What a good ending to the CD! It's got a nice piano playing in the background that just seems so relaxing.

Overall, this CD gets an A+ from me. I have owned it for several months, and I am still not tired of it. I listen to it all the time. Michael Buble is one of those up-and-coming singers whose voice is truly captivating and remarkable. I strongly recommend this CD for the car/office!

Free Music Review: A Promising New Singer With A Fabulous Voice
Hit: 5 Stars

One morning on the way to work, I was tuned in to a radio Jazz station and "Moondance" was playing. I said to myself: Oh my what a voice! It couldn't be Harry Connick Jr, couldn't be Michael Feinstein, couldn't be Bobby Caldwell, definitely not Frank Sinatra or Mel Torme! Who is this singer? After the song the DJ said: "You just heard "Moondance" by Michael Bublé, pronounced as (Boo-blay) from his self-titled CD." I've never heard of him so I checked him out at Amazon and ordered the CD. And to my surprise, I found myself not only listening to it but singing along as well. Simply put, I enjoyed and loved it.

It has great selection of songs from the initial track "Fever," followed by one of my favorites, "Moondance" (makes you sing along & snap your fingers). Listening to the slower ones such as "Kissing A Fool," "The Way You Look Tonight," "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" and "Put Your Head On My Shoulder" makes you want to fall in love again! His remarkable renditions of "Come Fly With Me" and "Summer Wind" are almost like the legendary Francis Albert Sinatra's style. "For Once In My Life" and one of the Bee Gees hit songs, "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart?" are equally delightful.

"I can still feel the breeze
That rustles through the trees
And misty memories of days gone by
We could never see tomorrow
No one said a word about the sorrow"

If you're in the mood for dancing and swinging and want to be cool and hip, then dance to the tune of "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" where he sings the refrain with so much flair and style. Likewise, the danceable beat of "Sway" will make you get up and dance to the rhythm.

The last track, "That's All," is one of my all-time favorites that he interprets with heartfelt emotion. Hopefully, it's not "that's all" for this young and promising new singer with a fabulous voice and a great sense of style. He deserves a pat on the back. Congratulations Michael Bublé for a wonderful debut album! I look forward to your follow-up album.

This recording is simply superb and it will be a welcome addition to your collection. Wholeheartedly recommended!

Free Music Review: Best New Pop Singer Since Sinatra
Hit: 5 Stars

It's so rare when a new talent comes along that totally captivates. It happened to us in the 1980s when Miami Sound Machine gained national exposure and again in the 1990s when LeAnn Rimes burst into the music world with "Blue." Now, here comes a young Canadian whose singing brilliance is nothing shy of startling. He's Michael Bublé (pronounce that boo-BLAY) and he's on a rocket ride to vocal fame. This initial, self-titled CD was released February 21 and has already hit GOLD in Canada. He is heard as part of the soundtrack in a new Renee Zellwegger film released in May. This guy's career is on fire -- deservedly so. If you're a fan of big band music or love to dance or just appreciate great singing, add this CD to your music collection right away. It's in ours! While a scant few of the tempos among the 13 selections are suitable only for gentle swaying (a nice pastime, nevertheless), Bublé delivers a variety of song interpretations that range from soft ballads ("That's All") to Elvis-like rock and roll ("Crazy Thing Called Love") to Sinatra-style swinging ("Come Fly With Me") to a brisk cha-cha ("Sway") and subtle rumba/bolero ("The Way You Look Tonight") that are beyond outstanding. Listen to his music and see if you don't find yourself thinking about the Bee Gees, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Jack Jones, Lou Rawls, Mel Tormé, Stevie Wonder, Vic Damone and more. The quality of Michael's voice and his phrasing seems like the reincarnation of them all -- only better! He is fortunate, too, that so many talented musicians were involved in arranging and playing the sparkling instrumental backings. They're just, plainly, superb. With much enthusiasm, we look forward to hearing more of this beautiful voice for a long, long time. This musical marvel is only 25 years old!

Free Music Review: Buble = Sinatra, Martin, Crosby, Prima, & Darin in ONE
Hit: 5 Stars

Get this CD, why? Because this kid can definitely sing. If you're a fan of Sinatra, Martin, Crosby, Prima, and other earlier Jazz/Big Band/Swing crooners, you might may not be totally amazed by the very first time you hear Michael Buble, but it WILL grow on you, if not instantly. Mr. Buble himself and his producer, David Foster, have magnificently arranged this album. Together, they have put together these wonderful track listings that just SWING, and mixed some very smooth, (but nor boring) jazz classics (such as "Just The Way You Look Tonight," which is not swung as Sinatra did, but as a melody which I find much better suited for that song). This album has an outstanding rendition of "Fever," which is a Fitzgerald classic, but with Michael's voice and the wonderful arrangements behind him, he defiantly takes it up a notch. This album perfectly suites a genre of music for Michael, who brings his own unique style to these songs, yet still stays true to the original songs themselves. Just look at some of these other reviews, and you'll see that he doesn't just captivate you with his delightful voice that is in the orbs of Sinatra and Martin, but he also has a marvelous stage presence and is able to connect with the audience. Michael Buble has stated himself that he is just as big a fan of this music as he is a singer. This young, humble, richly, deep voiced crooner has a star-struck career ahead of him. You'll se that some people have accused him of trying to scam people for money with the release of "Totally Buble" and "Let It Snow," which is not true because he does not even legally own the rights to those CDs (he has obviously been wrongfully used for other companies). But, That's why this CD needs to be in your collection, and just see how long it takes until you get hooked!
