Free Music Notes for Michael BubleFree Music Review: This album is a fresh breath of air... Hit: 5 Stars
it takes me back to the days of my youth when my father used to listen to Frank Sinatra on the record player...and we used to dance around the living room. I first heard this cd in Borders while browsing through some cd's...and at first I couldn't place who's voice it was that I was hearing. Michael Buble's voice is so clear...smooth...and relaxing. You can hear shades of old Blue Eyes when you hear him sing. I searched high and low for the artist...and finally when I was at my wits end, I looked up and there was Michael's cd. I turned it over to see the list of songs...and I was completely blown away. This young whipper snapper was singing not only an eclectic list of music...he was singing it well. The whole album itself is wonderful. It is like a trip down memory lane for music lovers...especially lovers of big band, swing and jazz. "Fever", "Moondance", "The Way you Look Tonight", and "Summer Wind", are true shades of Blue Eyes himself. But the other songs, remakes of more recent songs, like Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and the Bee Gees "How Can you mend a Broken Heart"...are surprising little treasures. He makes these songs his own...with his own unique style. You can also see Paul Anka's influence on this album with Michael's rendition of "Put Your Head on My Shoulder". It is a remake of a classic love song...but done with a contemporary flare...and it sounds great. I can honestly say that there aren't any bad songs on this cd. It has something that has been missing from many cd's put out today...quality. Michael's voice, the selection of songs, the arrangement of vocals and music...all make this album complete and a joy to listen to.
Free Music Review: A Young Man's Art Hit: 5 Stars
Breathing new life into a type of music that Sinatra sang and Nelson Riddle conducted takes a heck of a lot of breath support and support is what this Michael Buble's CD seemed to have in the making of it. David Foster producing, Paul Anka executive producing, Barry Gibbs singing back-up, Mandel, Foster, and Costa arranging. Whoa! It didn't hurt to plug a few power cords into these legendary sources. Unequivocally and indubitably, this is a new sound coming out of an otherwise vintage music type. Buble's voice displays the confidence and emotional range which are qualities often only mastered by old-time craggy crooners. Often, the cruel irony in music is that by the time you learn how to sing and life experiences provides you with something to say, your voice wears out. But apparently Buble's wine has aged before he did. His voice is strong and vital. And all the technicals are there--amazing breath support, super control, fine-tune pitch, mellifluous tone. And he doesn't sing with a tight throat like Sinatra. Buble's phrasing is Carmen McRae quality. McRae always had the ultimate respect for the word and so does Buble. Words have endings and Buble finishes them off nicely without a pedantic harshness. Then, like McRae, Buble puts the words together and tells a story. The magnificent singer not only effectively conveys a musical idea, but also attaches a verbal idea to it. The result is rich. This Buble CD incorporates newer songs with the usual standards and its a real nice blend. The offering of songs are varied yet connective--that has got to come from a strong sense of who Buble is and what he can do. Apparently, he can do a lot.
Free Music Review: One of the best albums I've ever owned. Hit: 5 Stars
When I bought this album, I didn't know much about Michael Buble, other than the fact that he was "that guy on the Starbucks commercial." But, I was looking for a recording of "Dream a Little Dream," because I sing it to my baby daughter. It is on the special edition of Michael's newest album, "It's Time." I went to his website to see if there was a snippet of it I could listen to (there wasn't), but he had three songs playing continuously on his website from the "It's Time" album. One of them was "Home." After listening to it three times in a row, I was hooked, and immediately bought both this album, and "It's Time." My husband I, who are 30 and 31, feel like a couple of old fogies, in a way, but we really like to rock out to these two CDs! (Or, I should say "swing out.") Great old standards, with a few newer "standards," jazzed up in Michael's special style. I truly appreciate his unapologetic love for different types of music, particularly Sinatra-era oldies. Michael has a beautiful voice, and each song is sung with feeling and affection, as if he were the original songwriter. And, it's infectious. I just can't help snapping my fingers and crooning to my two girls right along with him, when we're driving around. I just absolutely love these albums, and am anxious to see him live in concert sometime soon. I played a song or two for a friend of mine recently, and she, too, fell in love. I bought her an album, and she, in turn, bought one for her sister. At this rate, I'm sure the rest of the world will discover what they've been missing all this time.
Free Music Review: Warning! Listening to this CD will make you an instantly obsessed fan! Hit: 5 Stars
I looked up this cd to see how the reviews were going. And having been a fan of Buble since before his debut release, I was happy to see that most of them were perfect 5's. Then, I saw some "kid" wrote one of the stupidest reviews I've seen on this site. So,"Kid"..... Never actually heard the whole cd? So what was it about the album that made you an expert reviewer on it, causing you to give it a 1 star rating? Heard it by other artists and enjoyed it more? More than what? You haven't even heard the whole cd, remember? Nothing special about doing covers? How does shaming the original artists strike you for special? I'll tell you what isnt special about covers: your 50 cent, p. diddy, dr. dre, and boy bands sampling a true artists' songs, ideas, and originality because they couldnt do it. Not a fan of the music? Why not? Is it because there is more to appreciate, such as talent, and real people playing real instruments? Or is it that there isn't a keyboard playing the drums for you? Maybe it's because he doesn't need a lip syncing track in order to perform on SNL. Yes, MB IS helping a new generation appreciate the old. I just saw him in concert a few days ago, and there were as many people there my age (early twenties) and younger, as there were older adults, if not more. Saw it with my own eyes, dude, can't argue with that. Oh, and by the way... my 13 yr old sister DOES put it in her 5 disc changer next to backstreet boys, J-Lo, and Barlow Girl. Go have a talk with HER, she could probably teach you a few things.
Free Music Review: Fresh Interpretations and Lush Arrangements - Upd 2/10/2004 Hit: 5 Stars
Michael Buble's voice and David Foster's inspired production. This CD is absolutely exquisite. I am a huge Sinatra fan and Michael does not foolishly try to imitate him. He infuses every song with his own phrasing and sensuous voice. David Foster is a master at picking the perfect orchestrations.I never cared for "You're Gonna Miss My Loving" but after 3 good listens, my eyes teared up and the lyrics took on an entire new meaning - that of sorrow. Lou Rawl's version is more 'I told you so' bold. Michael sings it with a broken heart. My favorites? Moondance of course and Kissing a Fool were unexpected surprises. I skip the Bee Gees song. It does nothing for me - but then neither did the original. **** See below for an Update on Feb 10, 2004 **** I saw Michael live at the Hollywood Bowl on a perfect LA summer evening. Outside, tank top, shorts, flip-flips, Pinot Grigio, a full moon, and then fireworks. He didn't get a long enough set but I can't wait to see him again. His voice sounds even fuller and richer live. No, it wasn't the wine! Everyone who has heard this CD on my BOSE enjoys it. Most men love "Fever"...that cracks me up! Michael Buble' belongs in your collection along with Sting, Sinatra, Linda Ronstandt, Brian Setzer, Bono/U2, Diana Krall, and kd Lang singing Skylark (check it out, gorgeous). I am looking forward to Michael and David collaborating again. This could be the next Sinatra/Riddle/May team. Enjoy! Marilyn ...
