Free Music Notes for Michael BubleFree Music Review: Out of a sea of monotony and electronic slight-of-hand... Hit: 5 Stars
...comes a true original talent. The fact that he "sounds like" Sinatra, Torme, Darin and/or Connick, Jr. doesn't take away from that originality--it only enhances it. The first time I heard MB was in the movie "Duets" about a big karaoke competition (it's actually a really good movie!!), and he sings Sinatra's "Strangers in the Night", and he's meant to sound like Sinatra (that's the gimmick!!). Then I saw him on "The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn"; he sang "Moondance", a song I didn't particularly like--that is until I heard MB sing it. I was COMPLETELY mesmerized!!!!! And I went out the next day and bought this album and listened to it immediately, and I was blown away!!! Every song was wonderfully arranged--even Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", which has a 50's flavor, fit right in with the rest. I was really impressed that Barry Gibb did the backing vocals on his "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?"--that's confidence in someone covering your song. To make a long review short (I know--too late!!!), this is a GREAT CD--and shame on me for not reviewing it sooner!!!!! Regards!!! ps--can't wait to get the XMAS EP!!!!!
Free Music Review: Harry Connick Jr. eat your heart out! Hit: 5 Stars
I first heard Michael Buble in the film DOWN WITH LOVE. I turned to my friends and asked "Who is that singing? He's great!" But I didn't think about the unknown singer for weeks. Then I was in a CD store with the same friends and one turned to me and said "You must get this CD. This is the guy you liked from DOWN WITH LOVE." Well, I bought the CD and rushed home to listen to it. This guy has real talent. Harry Connick Jr. may be a fine musician but he is but "a poor man's Sinatra" next to a singer like Michael Buble. Buble brings something more to the standards. He has a sweeter voice than Connick yet brings a more individual style too. In some ways he is reminiscent of Bobby Darin but whereas Darin could certainly swing, Buble also brings a sensuality to his music. His version of "Sway" is by far the best I have heard and my current favorite from the CD. The arrangements are all great and the selections range from standards like "Fever" and "Come Fly With Me" to new classics like "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" and "Moondance". Buble's cover of "The Way You Look Tonight" would make even Fred Astaire proud.
Free Music Review: A great CD, and a great new voice! Hit: 5 Stars
I feel very foolish. I reviewed this here at Amazon previously after listening to the CD a couple of times. Maybe I was in a bad mood, I don't know....but today I listened to it on the way to work, and then I played it at work. I work in a very upscale and very well known Beauty Salon and my customers are "trapped" with my music for their stay. Well, when I played Michael Buble, everyone went crazy for it. Everyone wanted to know who was singing, and they wrote the name down to go and purchase it. Then I listened to it again on the way home. I now have a new opinion of this CD, and Michael Buble I really blew it when I stated here before that it was a poor imitation. It really isn't an imitation of Frank, and Dean, it's more a tribute to that style of music. I should also note that Michael Buble doesn't imitate anyone's style either. He has a style that is all his own, but still reminds you of other great singers such as Mel Torme or Sinatra. I really think this is a great CD, and that Michael Buble has a great career ahead of him. I would really love to hear him sing some original music too. This just shows that you should really LISTEN to something carefully before passing judgement!
Free Music Review: 5 stars means I love this man's work Hit: 5 Stars
It's no small wonder that the Bee-Gees would allow Buble to re-release their 'How Can You Mend A Broken Heart'and choose to do the background vocals for him - they obviously care a great deal about their finest work and knew that Buble could do it proud. And did he ever. It's my top song on the album. I'm a brother's Gibb fan, and would never have known about Buble had it not been for info on their board a long, long while back. I smile now thinking about trying to figure out how to pronounce his name! Now I consider myself a Buble fan as well. His recent Larry King appearance singing Christmas songs from his newly released Christmas album "Let it Snow" proved to me that Buble is a serious and deserving leader in the world of great singers --- rich tones and passion and respect for songs written with those qualities in mind. His popularity is not surprising, he's talented, good looking and by all accounts is a nice 'kid'. Yes, I watched the Dateline show on him and was struck by his sincerity and family closeness - his grandpa must be a sweety. He is what the music world and we as music lovers have been waiting for for so long! And I say it's about time!
Free Music Review: I thought this was Harry Connick, Jr. Hit: 5 Stars
I was at Barnes & Noble last night looking for a book and the music department was playing this. I don't own an iPod and I buy about 3 CDs all year. But I bought this one - total impulse shopping! As for Kurt and Paige who think the CD is pretentious, I think they are probably young and even if they aren't, they sound pretentious themselves. Wow! They have heard Frank sing the same songs! Any idea how many people have sung the songs Frank sang? Give it a rest! This guy has a smooth voice and yes, I have heard all the songs in the original form and many of them I heard when they were first on the charts. Nowadays, what group doesn't remake or cover a song? This guy's voice is smooth and he has made smooth versions of songs that you might like to listen to when you're in a more mellow mood. His version of Crazy Little Thing Called Love, for example, is a great song for a mellow or romantic evening. The original is NOT. My husband and I like to dance - you know how to dance? The cheek-to-cheek kind of dancing? Can't do that to many of these originals. Doesn't mean people who were around back in the "day" don't want to hear them again. Buy the album - yes the ALBUM - and grab your honey.
