Free Music Notes for Michael Jackson 25th Anniversary of Thriller(Deluxe Casebook Edition)Free Music Review: Michael's Back Hit: 5 StarsIt's hard to believe it has been 25 years since Thriller. I still remember the first time I saw Michael moonwalk on Motown 25. The Thriller album was so popular because it appealed to so many different demographics, something we will probably never witness again. The album related to ages 8-80. The music is still tremendously strong. "Wanna Be Startin" Somethin' is a vocal tour de force and is still influential today (Think the refrain of Rhianna "Don't Stop The Music"). "Billie Jean" a dark, pulsating R&B marvel is arguably Michael's best song ever. "The Lady In My Life" is quiet storm at its best as Michael is over zealous for his true love. Other highlights include the AOR staple "Beat It" with electrifying guitar interplay from Eddie Van Halen and "Thriller" the ultimate Halloween party anthem. There is no filler here as all 9 songs are first rate. It is a timeless album and remains a highwater mark for Michael Jackson and producer Quincy Jones.
Free Music Review: Great CD! Hit: 4 StarsLet me start by saying I am a huge fan of Michael Jackson who without question is the greatest performer of all time. The remastered and the new remixed versions are great. I do agree with other reviewers that the DVD should have been remastered particularly in high definition.
The other issue I have with the DVD is that while the Motown performance was great I do not think it was all that. His greatest performance, for those old enough to remember, was at another award show where he sings I believe The Man in the Mirror. He starts out singing then is backed up by a full gospel choir. He gets so into the song that a man comes from off stage to check on Michael. It was so intense I remember being brought close to tears. When I saw it I wished then I recorded it; that to me was his greatest live performance because of the emotion and soul he put into singing it.
Overall it is an excellent release and well worth the money.
Free Music Review: Thriller 25 is awesome Hit: 5 StarsI just bought this and I am really impressed.
The CD is amazing, the songs are still awesome, the remixes sound even better on a stereo than my laptop and the DVD (although I own all of the content) is still awesome to watch!
The only thing that disappointed me was the packaging, yes it looks really nice and cool, but I expected something a bit more inside. I expected when purchasing this DELUXE CASEBOOK EDITION, a big booklet with really cool liner notes and information.
All I got was a bunch of photos from the Thriller era, pretty much filled up with photos from the Thriller video! It also comes with lyrics which is great but to be honest, I was disappointed with the inside content of Thriller 25.
I am only disappointed however because I had 2001's "Thriller: Special Edition" and its not identical but it isnt a far departure from what that looked like. This is probably the inner-packaging-nerd speaking, but yeah, I expected a bit more from this "deluxe" release.
The content however is freaking awesome. I love the "Thriller" album and anyone who doesnt own one copy (in any form) should be ashamed!!
Hahaha, anyways I really recommend this, to anyone, the content is first rate and the DVD will leave a smile on your face.
The remixes sound really good and the only one I didnt love so much was Fergie's "Beat It"..the rest are great.
Great re-release and I cant wait to hear Michael's new material!
Content:
Original Album - A+++
Extras + Remixes - A
Packaging - A+ for outside, B for inner booklet!
Free Music Review: A Classic Album needs DTS treatment Hit: 3 StarsThis is a classic album reissued for money with a couple of "remixes".
Sony/CBS should have remastered and issued in DTS 96/24 5.1 surround format.
Just imagine the 9 songs including Thriller,Beat it,Billie Jean,Human Nature comming from all round the room and the effects.
Now that would be an album worth re-buying just for DTS surround and a must for any collection.
Free Music Review: Nothing beats All-American perfection! Hit: 5 StarsJust goes to prove:
Great artist & their music still have a direct connection to 'the masses' that today's tabloid media could only wish for!
