Free Music Notes for Michael Jackson: The Ultimate Collection (4 CD's + 1 DVD)Free Music Review: great music from this musical legend Hit: 5 Stars
I've been a michael jackson for what seems like my whole life the last 2 decades, and I just had to buy this box set when it was released. In addition to hit singles, it also has unreleased demos from each recording session of his epic solo albums, as well as songs that were written this decade that did not make it on invincible or number ones. Since we know most of the songs that are on his albums, I'm going to review the brand new never before released songs:
shake your body down to the ground demo-this is a demo of 'things i do for you' and shake your body down without the percussion, and just pianos and snaps, it's beautiful and michael sounds even better than he does on the final result
sunset driver-this song is a fast disco song with great and energetic vocals that was recorded for the off the wall CD. I feel like this song could have replaced Get On the Floor, and it also reminds me of Ease On Down the Road from The Wiz, which is also on disc 1 of this collection
pyt-this was the original pyt that was on the Thriller CD, but rather, it was an r&b jam co written by michael unlike the final cut
scared of the moon-this song has a beautiful piano hook and mysterious lyrics that capture the mood of this song
we are the world-this is michael's solo version of the we are the world demo, he sounds at his best ever on this track
we are here to change the world-this song is a period piece with it's 80's keyboards, and was included in the disney world epcot centre in the 80's and 90's, I was fortunate to have seen this film back in the day
cheater-a song with a strong hard beat, lush harmonies and edgy vocals from michael, it has the signature mj sound to it and was originally recorded for the Bad CD, I love the key change with the pianos at the end
streetwalker-this song was also recorded for bad and the beat reminds me a lot of billie jean, but this time it's michael stalking a girl rather than the other way around!
monkey business-a song recorded for dangerous with a hip hop prince-like beat and monkeys, very creative and interesting choice of lyrics about dirty family secrets haha, probably about jermaine and his "escapades" in the early 90's mind you
someone put your hand out-originally it was distributed as a pepsi promotion and co written with teddy riley. Michael sings soprano and sounds beautiful, the music is so smooth and beautiful, michael continued this type of style with songs like butterflies
who is it remix-a remix of who is it, just as good as the original which is worth checking out on the dangerous album
dangerous demo-the original dangerous single before the final product. You can hear the two and get a glimpse of michael's songwriting process and how it sounds originally to how it ended up on dangerous the cd(get that one too! this collection is no reason for passing up other mj albums)
on the line-this was released on a promo of the ghosts short film in the mid 90's and is written by babyface. Michael's vocals are amazing, even better than on you are not alone which was a big hit. It amazes me how this was not included on HIStory. Beautiful message with beautiful vocals and musical accompaniment
fall again-wonderful r&b ballad, I can't believe it was not included on invincible, it easily could have replaced you are my life or the speechless ballad
in the back-the rhythm sounds late 80's and early 90's and this demo is not quite completed, but it does give the listener a glimpse of mj's songwriting process, as have other tracks on this set
beautiful girl-the beat definitely would have helped this song becomes a hit in the late 90's or early 00's but it's a bit late for that though I love the guitars in it, and the lyrics needed work though this is just a demo, and a 'beautiful' one that is
the way you love me-this song has an old school jazzy vibe to it with a catchy melody and music, michael sounds nice here. This has to be one of the most calming, soothing songs michael has ever done
we've had enough-the best song michael has put out in the new millenium, had this been released, it would have been a huge hit. It's an r&b ballad about anti-war and it magically evolves into a rock power ballad, amazing work!
Also the dangerous concert is included in this set, though I feel the victory and bad tours are more representative of michael's talent as a performer without all the special effects. The booklet is nice to look at, but I feel like though this is ultimate mj, there are a lot of great musical career moments missing on this. For example, the legendary duet with sister janet, and it makes me wonder how childhood made it on this CD and not will you be there, which was a huge hit in summer 1993 thanks to the hit film free willy. Other than that I believe this CD will make a great gift to those who like mj's music or liked his music at some point in their lives, and people need to start focusing on mj's music again, the santa maria police messed with the wrong man and failed to bring him down, it was all for money. Let's put the past behind us and for old times sake focus on the music again. Lets face it he has more talent than wannabes like usher, mario, shawn desman and so on and the music industry needs mj again. Go michael, keep putting out music, you still got it!
