Free Music Notes for MotownFree Music Review: Great Music Hit: 5 Stars
I generally hate it when singers attempt to sing '60's and '70's Motown that were not a part of the Organization during that era. However, MM is an exception. He offers his own style without taking the funk and soul out of the music like many other pop artists, namely Mike Bolton and Linda Ronstadt, are notorious of doing. He delivers very powerful heart thumping vocals that are impossible for any singer to replicate. His opener, "Heard it Thru the Grapevine," set the stage for some great rhythms with terrific instruments and background singers throughout the track. "Ain't no Mountain" is another great rendition by him. Usually, no matter how great the record, there are at least one or two bad songs but such doesn't appear to be the case here. Michael McDonald has released one of the top CD's of the year.

Free Music Review: Great CD! Hit: 5 Stars
Typically, I don't like cds where an artist does all songs originally done by other artists. But, this is an excellent cd. He did a good job of picking a few songs that haven't been re-done hundreds of times and shows true respect to the original artists. My personal guideline for a remake is that the artist adds something to the song to make it worthwhile. Overall, he does it on this cd. Of course there's his unique voice that adds to any song but I'm a big fan of the arrangements... especially "You Are Everything," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "I'm Going to Make You Love Me," and "Too High." Also love "Sign, Sealed, Delivered," He did an interesting take on "How Sweet It Is" but I prefer the original. Overall, a wonderful cd.
Free Music Review: Motown is Magic for Michael McDonald Fans Hit: 5 Stars
Any fan of Michael McDonald...or simply any fan of great and lasting music is in for the listening treat of a lifetime in Michael McDonald's latest release: "Motown." Filled with soulful renditions of some beloved Motown classics, only a singer of McDonald's caliber, talent and background could manage to breathe new life into such timeless tunes as "I Heard it Through the Grapvine" and "Signed, Sealed and Delivered." Somewhere in the Heavens the late, great Marvin Gaye must be smiling down on Michael. Here he truly delivers. This is the kind of wonderful CD that comes around only once every decade or so...the kind you keep playing over and over in your CD player and never have the urge to take it out. This music soars and so will your heart with Motown!
Free Music Review: Beautiful to Say the Least Hit: 5 Stars
Seldom, do I hear a voice that touches my heart. Most often, I do not feel artists do a great job of singing songs that were amazing hits in the past. However, Michael McDonald has proven me wrong. It reminds me that there are exceptions to every belief system or experience. What Mr. McDonald has created with this CD is unbelievable magic!!! I love the way he has taken these older hits and infused them with his voice, his energy and most of all his spirit!!!! If you love beautiful music you will love this CD. The musical tones and the sound of Mr. McDonald's voice moves past your ears and into your heart. When an artist can reach out and touch you in such a special way... who cares what he is singing and how old the songs are... beauty and connection... to me is more important!!!
