Free Music Notes for MotownFree Music Review: What could be better than this? Hit: 5 Stars
When I first heard about this CD - through all the commercials he's been doing - I thought - WHAT BETTER? Michael McDonald and Motown - a match made in heaven. The most natural pairing since bread and butter. And this CD is all butter and yumminess. I think he must have been a Motown artist in another life. This CD is so great, that it gives me hope that music will someday get better again. I met McDonald years ago, and remember what a sweet man he was. And here we have this wonderful sweetness in this CD. Oh bless whomever told him this would be a good CD to do. Its fantastic!
Free Music Review: Exceptional Hit: 5 Stars
This cd is amazing!!I usually don't like remakes of other artist songs especially when they don't sound as well as the original, but he did them all justice! "All in love is fair" and "I want you" are my favortes. He definately puts his own touch to each song to give it a whole new sound. This is the type of music that needs to be played and promoted on the radio instead of the "GARBAGE" that we now call music. This is another incredible cd that will probably never get the regonition it deserves.Defintely buy this cd. (I've been promoting for you Micheal!)
Free Music Review: BORN TO SING THESE SONGS Hit: 5 Stars
In Michael's illustrious thirty year career, he has done so many good vocals both solo and with the Doobie Brothers, and countless special duets ("Among the Missing" for one), that it was inevitable that he take on these Motown classics. McDonald's brittle, smoky and evocative voice has never sounded better. My favorites are "All in Love is Fair," a neglected Stevie Wonder ballad, and his smoky rendition of "How Sweet It Is." All the songs are good, and a welcome addition to any McDonald fan's repertoire (much better than his boring "Blue Obsession.")HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Free Music Review: Great. Just Great. Hit: 5 Stars
Michael does it again with his stunning renditions of Motown classsics that belong on "The Big Chill". Some remake highlights are "I Heard it Through the Grapevine", "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", and the best on the CD, Michael's haunting rendition of "You are Everything". Mcdonald was able to do that on the radio with just his voice and a piano, he may sound like he's straining on a few of the long notes, but this guy is TALENTED! Bottom Line: Are you willing to hear downbeat versions of Upbeat Motown classsics? Then this Cd is for you!
Free Music Review: MCDONALD "MOTOWN" SOUL IS BACK WITH A VENGEANCE. Hit: 5 Stars
Michael "Doobie Brothers" McDonald is back with his soulful voice."Motown" brings in covers of the Supremes "Ain't No Mountaing High Enough" to the classic "I Heard it Through the Grapevine", to my absolute favorite "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)". McDonald puts a 21st Century twist on some old classics, and it works. Well produced, and McDonald is in absolute the finest voice since I can remember. A true gem, that will bring back great memories of what music is supposed to be with a modern twist. A definite recommendation.
