Free Music Notes for MotownFree Music Review: A refreshing sound from a familiar face Hit: 5 Stars
I have to admit that I was leary about buying a CD that contained remakes of old songs. This usually tells me that the artist can't come up with any new material and needs to make a quick buck. Come to find out, I was totally wrong in this case. Michael McDonald's new CD is a truly wonderful project that is refreshing and provides a wonderful presentation of the classics that he sings. It's hard to find CDs that contain more than a few songs that you would actually want to listen to, but this CD delivers. Your money will not be wasted!
Free Music Review: Warm up to Motown Hit: 5 Stars
Oh my goodness! Couldn't stop dancing and singing - not even sitting down. This is a voice I have always been glad to hear and now it's singing some of my best-loved songs. So glad Michael was inspired by the lesser-known Stevie Wonder songs All in Love is Fair and I Believe. When I heard his interview on NPR, I knew this CD would belong to me - and soon. If NPR has this interview on its website, take a moment to listen in. I was late to work one morning because I couldn't leave the car until he was finished singing. And...get this CD!
Free Music Review: A NEW GENERATION OF CLASS Hit: 5 Stars
I BOUGHT THE CD AND I LOVE EVERY THING ABOUT IT. HE IS A MASTER AT HIS CRAFT. I LOVE HIS VOICE, THE WAY HE LOOKS, THE WHOLE NINE YARDS. FOR THE REVIEWER THAT PLAYED THE "RACE CARD", I THINK HE IS A RACIST HIMSELF. NO ONE SAYS A THING WHEN BLACKS COVER SONGS THAT HAVE BEEN TRADITIONALLY DONE BY NON BLACKS. I THINK THE MAN HAS JUST AS MUCH SOUL AS ANY OF THE ORIGINAL ARTIST. I DON'T THINK THE WRITERS OR THOSE CLASSICS ARE COMPLAINING, "CHA-CHING. AN AFRICAN AMERICAN (BLACK) MICHAEL MCDONALD LOVER FOR YEARS. PEACE.
Free Music Review: Motown with a Blue Eyed Soul Twist Hit: 5 Stars
The very first records (45s for 45 cents each) I bought with my babysitting money were all "The Sound of Motown". Those songs by Smokey Robinson, the team of Holland-Dozier-Holland, etc. were full of passion and soul. To hear Michael McDonald sing these classic chart toppers in new arrangements is just awesome. No matter what he sings - he rocks, he rolls, and he takes you higher. Make sure you also purchase his follow up CD - Motown II. Both are great to sing to on long road trips, and great to dance to with your honey.
Free Music Review: Something old is new Hit: 5 Stars
I always found Mr. McDonalds voice interesting, even back in the mid-seventies when (as I found out later) he sang backup on some Steely Dan records. With the Doobies I lost some interest but the voice was still DIFFERENT. I believe what was wrong was the material! This CD is at once so comfortable since these are well-written songs that I liked the first time around and now they take on a new life with MM's interpretations. Absolutely mesmerizing the first time you hear it and it brings a smile every time after that.
