I am glad that I found The Wichita Train Whistle Sings after many years. Well it is no wonder that I could not find it because Micheal Nesmith did not want to rerelease the recording. He did so after being hounded by fans over the years via e-mail. Anyway, do not expect any country rock or Monkees sounding tunes. All of the songs which are Nesmith songs have been arranged by him and a fellow named Shorty Rogers for orchestra. The opening track entitled Nine Times Blue sounds nothing like the second track of Magnetic South which bears the same song name. The only song on the Wichita Train Whistle sings that sounds like the Monkees version melody wise is You Just May Be the One which appeared on the Monkees album called Headquarters in 1967. Nesmith does not sing on the recording. I think that that is important to note. Heck, recording wise he is not to be found on the recording at all. The music on this album would be like music Lawrence Welk would have created while being on LSD.
Buy it because it is good-- Only for serious nez heads.
