Free Music Notes for The Michael Schenker Group

Free Music Review: I had the vinal back in 1980
Hit: 5 Stars

This release was light years ahead of its time. It still holds its own and is better than 99% of the music out there. Michael Schenker is one of the all time greatest!!!

Free Music Review: THE Michael Shenker project to have
Hit: 5 Stars

If you are wondering what album to buy to hear the best of Michael Shenker...
THIS IS THE ONE!
{Of course, you can always re-visit some UFO classics like Doctor, Doctor and Rock Bottom... or some old Scorpions.}

This was his breakout project after UFO... and is some of the best of all his work.
In my opinion, he hasn't put out a better project/recording since.

Free Music Review: A Rock CLassic
Hit: 5 Stars

At the height of his prowess in 1979 Michael Schenker acrimoniously split from UFO. He had just given the note perfect performance of the century on the best live album ever made and then decided to disappear! I feared the worst for the unpredictable German genius that was and still is my favourite guitar player. Then came The Michael Schenker Group album, his first attempt as a solo artist and still probably the best. Although not really a group at all this is a classic, period!!
The album featured the rock find of the decade in Gary Barden on vocals along with the finest session musicians of the period (Simon Phillips on drums, Mo Foster on bass and the legendary Don Airey on keys)

There are obvious parallels with UFO where Schenker was a creative force, yet this is altogether an edgier guitar-indulgent album that compensates for the loss of Mogg's lyrical mastery. The album is still rammed full of great rock songs laced everywhere with technically brilliant lead guitar work that never forsakes the melody or compromises the song structure. Lost Horizons is awesomely mesmerizing and moody, Armed & Ready is straight ahead power chord rock, Tales of Mystery has beautiful acoustic tones and a real gem of a lead break, Feel's Like a Good Thing has great interchanges with Barden, in fact every track has plenty on offer. It goes without saying that the musicianship is excellent, all wrapped up in a solid production job by Roger Glover. Schenker was by far the best guitarist on the scene in 1980. If you like lead guitar based rock and roll rather than the strumity-strum stuff of today then this is for you.
