Free Music Notes for The Spirit Room

Free Music Review: Good debut. Really really good. Okay, a GREAT debut!
Hit: 5 Stars

I remember I was in a car listening to the radio quickly flipping through the stations, looking for my favorite R&B station. I remember passing by really fast and heard a clip of a song which sounded so much like Lisa Loeb. I was remotely interested because I haven't heard from any of these female rock artists I like in the longest time, being for the past three or four years I've been fed nothing but R&B, rap, and bubblegum pop. I switched back and listened to the song then let out a bored sigh. Not my cup of tea. A day later when I was watching MTV I saw this video. The caption was entitled "Michelle Branch, Everywhere, The Spirit Room, Maverick." "Hmmmmm... newcomer!" I thought. "On the same label as Alanis Morissette and Madonna." (I'm a fan of them, too.) The video got to me. Watching the song with the video was so much different, and I liked it very much! I had to see it again and tape it! The next week I listened to a radio interview at a local radio station that happened to be non other but Michelle Branch. I was all ears! I don't know what it was that sparked me about her. Was it her interesting background? Her uniqueness? Her just being real unlike so many other artists today? Was it her talent of playing her own instruments and writing her own music? I just decided I had to buy a copy of her new debut. Before I popped it my player, I was nervous of dissappointment, because I wasn't used to hearing something different than I usually listened to i.e.; R&B and hip-hop. I was wrong. It was different, but good. After listening to the album a couple of times, I declared it as one of my favorite albums. Here's a review of each individual song:
1. "Everywhere". Her first single. I'm still not sick of it.
2. "You Get Me". Reviewers are saying that this is the album highlight, but I think all the other songs are better.
3. "All You Wanted". I LOVE this song. This my favorite song by Michelle, and I think it's her favorite, too. I could keep it on replay forever. I automatically knew this was going to be the next single, and my prediction was right!
4. "You Set Me Free". Good song. This one catches on to you.
5. "Something To Sleep To". Groovy song. The opening of the song sounds like something by The Beatles, which is no surprise because she's a fan.
6. "Here With Me". My other favorite song. It's a really good song with a catchy alternative vibe.
7. "Sweet Misery". Interesting-sounding song, but I think the phrase "Sweet Misery" is a cliche in rock music.
8. "If Only She Knew". Another groovy song with a Beatle-or-Sheryl-Crow like atmosphere, and another highlight. I can so relate to this one, and the tone is just right!
9. "I'd Rather Be In Love With You". This is a second-favorite tie with "Here With Me." Great song.
10. "Goodbye To You". This song has kind of a sad tune to it, but I can relate.
11. "Drop In The Ocean". Really good tune with a spirtual tone that builds up from mellow to hip-hop to really fast like the end of a Fleetwood Mac song, a perfect closure for the album.
Who am I kidding! All of the songs are great and I could keep making comments about them, but I'm too lazy.

Some further brief comments: Buy her album! It's really good and she deserves to go multiplatinum! How could corporate tools like P. Diddy and Britney sell more records than a true talent like Michelle? Ugh!
Some more stuff about her. She actually looks normal and real! She's racially mixed like me. I'm not saying that nationality should matter, but it's nice to see someone breaking the rule that in order to be pretty you have to be either some blonde, blue-eyed, thin-lipped bimbo, or really really black. No offense. She also shows you don't need to have a skanky wardrobe, make-up, etc. to be pretty. If anything, wearing regular non-revealing clothes is more attractive and skankiness is just plain ugly! Oh, and she's way too good to deserve a Dawson' Creek image! And I don't understand why she's even being connected to Britney Spears and the likes! Take part in promoting The Spirit Room! Thank you.
