Free Music Notes for Middle of NowhereFree Music Review: From a seed, to a flower, to a rose. And more full blooms ahead!! Hit: 5 Stars
Middle Of Nowhere is so good!! I'm listening to it right now while I type this. Isaac, Taylor, and Zachary were only 16, 14, and 11 when they made this album and I have yet to hear pop today that can come even close to matching Hanson's fine quality. I can't help but note that "Look at You", on this album, is hilarious towards the end!! Zac is goofing off in the background. For those of you who are curious he's saying(in a rather wacky voice): "OH BABY DOLL!! Let's do it baby! Let's do it! Oh yeah! Turn me loose! Like a one-eyed goose! Oh yeah! Oh yeah! Ohh yeah!! Turn me loose! Like a one-eyed goose! Oh yeahh, let's do it! Hey! Psyches! Dykes! (It sounds like what he said) Turn me loose, like a one-eyed double loose!" It's a little inaudible when he says that so turn your volume up on this track! Any of their music sounds good played loudly anyway, especially in your car! I would rate this cd as 5 stars because A: Middle Of Nowhere has excellent variety to its songs B: Every song on this album lives up to its expectations and none are downers and C: For a band of their age and experience, at the time, such a successful first album (excluding their indies) is incredible! After hearing "Thinking Of You" , on a friend's copy of Middle Of Nowhere, I was hooked on Hanson! I went out and bought Middle Of Nowhere as soon as I could. It stayed in my cd player for maybe a month or two after I bought it and I still play it frequently. It just needs to be cleaned now! This album is a must-have for any fan of pop rock! Take it from a die-hard Hanson fan of 11 years!
My rating of the songs:
Thinking Of You: Such a fun song and great lyrics to boot! Personally, it makes me feel three ways: dreamy, warm and fuzzy, and energetic.
MMMBop: Instantly memorable and a real gem of a song! You just can't get much more original than this! (Tell me, how often do NATIONS of people take to a word that was MADE UP by young KIDS? It just doesn't happen... unless you're Hanson.) This is the song that made Hanson famous! It's really quite phenomenal and is, frankly, indisputably my most favorite song on this album! Purely original and quite passionate! It's about treating the people who love you with respect and holding on to them. In an mmmbop they could be gone! If you are wondering, an mmmbop is like an instant. Hanson explained it themselves.
Weird: Very encouraging song that is aimed towards teens under peer pressure who are just having a rough time of it. Teens can relate to the song, because it directly targets such tender issues and deals with them delicately.
Speechless: Excellent song! A bit harder than the others and has a mild alternative feel to it. Is pushy and contains a hint of sarcasm (rather mild), angst, and melancholy. It sounds like its about a guy who's suspicious of his girlfriend cheating on him. Basically, he's saying that he knows what she's up to and that he won't put up with it much longer, cause it's breaking his heart.
Where's The Love: Gripping song and melody! Sounds as though it may be about a couple who's having problems in their relationship. Will make you feel sympathetic and a little sad. But it's still got a happy feel to it despite the predominate feelings!
Yearbook: I have to hand it to Taylor. He delivers some powerful, high vocals on this song! Truly amazing! Yearbook is about the mystery of a vanished classmate, named Johnny. It has a haunting feel to it.
Look at you: Makes you wanna get up and bust a move! Hints a little bit at alternative music. Very energizing and a bit encouraging! Gives an on-top-of-the-world feeling. Please excuse Zac's very hyper outburst! haha
Lucy: Bittersweet and sweet in one! Wow! My second fave song on this album, hands down! I don't see why this song is so underrated!! This is Zac's solo. His little boy voice on Lucy makes me melt! I love singing along with him. I simply cannot get enough of this song! I've already played it 48 times on itunes, and I've only had itunes for about a year! A little known fact about this song is it's about the famous Peanuts characters: Lucy and Schroeder. Lucy is very much smitten with Schroeder, as we all know! Schroeder would always kinda blow her off. Well, she left him and he realized, a little too late, that he felt the same way about her. (Zac explained that himself!) It's the second shortest song on Middle Of Nowhere not to mention a breakup song. But don't let that fool you! Underneath all it's deceiving exterior Lucy is a song that warrants a good listen! Anyone who's ever been through the painful experience of a breakup (and that's alot of "anyones"!) will easily be able to relate with it!
I Will Come To You: Arguably, one of the best love songs ever written! Extremely heartfelt lyrics! Would make a great couples' song. Taylor isn't saying, "Come With Me" as is commonly thought. He's actually saying, "Come What May". Just look in the cd booklet...once you buy it! Just for those of you who are curious I will quote: "When you have no light to guide you and no one to walk beside you, I will come to you. Ohh, I will come to you! When the night is dark and stormy, you won't have to reach out for me! I will come to you. Ohh, I will come to you! Sometimes when all your dreams may have seen better days, and you don't know how or why, but you've lost your way. Have no fear when your tears are fallin'. I will hear your spirit callin'! And I swear that I'll be there! Come what may!"
A Minute Without You: Isaac sings lead!! This song reminds you of when a relationship is in its' beginning stages. All you want to do is think about your special someone and spend every minute with them! Very nice song!
Madeline: It may not grab your attention at first but it certainly will make you do a double take years later! lol Madeline has just kinda crept up on me over the years without my realizing it! It was one of the songs I enjoyed but wasn't just crazy about. Well, I absolutely ADORE it now!! Very contagious! Gets stuck in my head easily.
With You In Your Dreams: Very moving! I'm touched by this song. The boys dedicated it to their late grandmother. Excellent melody and lyrics! Is sad but still uplifting. May I warn you, this song might provoke tears.
Man From Milwaukee: Ahh, the bonus track!! A song about an alien from Milwaukee. This song sets a goofy mood. It makes me laugh! I love it when Zac is on the megaphone as Mother Bird and Baby Bird...hilarious! I have to quote that part for you! You'll get a kick out of it! Snippet(I've told who is speaking, when, so no one gets confused about it): Mother Bird: "This is Mother Bird calling Baby Bird! Baby Bird, come in! Come in, Baby Bird!! FOR THE LOVE OF PETE COME IN!! Baby Bird: This is Baby Bird...sorry I was watching Court TV. Do you copy? Do you copy?! Mother Bird: Of course we copy! 24 hours a day, IN COLOR!" Hanson wrote this song when their family van broke down in Albuquerque. They decided "Man From Milwaukee" had a better ring to it than Man From Albuquerque. I'm glad they changed it!
An iteresting fact about the songs on this album: Although many sound happy, they are in fact sad. Read the lyrics and you'll agree. I learned this from Taylor's description of the songs, as a whole. (he didn't say exactly what I typed)
I know it's really got nothing to do with MON but...
For those of you who are interested, here's a little note on the indies: They ARE rare so if you want them you better check Ebay. They are also very expensive. I bought mine, together, for $315 (I've seen them for sale, as a single album or cassette tape, anywhere from $100-$400...some less because of condition.) I was lucky to get mine together! I can't even find downloads on the web for the songs on these albums! Just peachy, huh?;P The album MMMBOP has both the original, long version of the song as well as the cut-short version as is heard on MON (they decided to cut it short for MON)! As for Boomerang, it's full of songs that have not been re-released. MMMBOP contains several original versions of some of the songs off MON. (the only exceptions of re-released songs from these albums, that I know of so far, are a very few songs that were re-released in '97, exclusively for a special MOE fanclub cd. The first three songs on that cd, to be exact. The other two songs were on MMMBOP. Also, "More Than Anything" was re-released for Live From Albertane. I know of nothing else.) 3 Car Garage probably automatically popped into your minds when I mentioned the indies right?! It really is too brief though, when it says, "the indie recordings '95-'96". It contains songs from only MMMBOP and Boomerang is payed no due credit. I'm a little disappointed. Another note on Boomerang: the disc says 1994 because that is the year Boomerang was recorded...1995 is the release date. Anyway, Hanson still sounds SO GOOD even at the ages of (from oldest to youngest) 13, 10, and 9 on Boomerang and 15, 12, and 10 on MMMBOP! Every song has its highlights and the guys have great voices for their ages. I have a feeling there will be many more happy years ahead for these troopers! Heck, they already have 14 years' experience under their sleeve!
