The first time you listen to this album you may be disappointed not to hear Mercer himself on it, but the more you play it, the more you will like the renderings of the Mercer standards. I wish the lyrics of "I'm an Old Cowhand" had been included, but hearing Clint Eastwood "sing" "That Old Black Magic" made up for it. I'd love to know the story of the making of this album. If you are new to Mercer, this won't be a good introduction. If you have been a Mercer fan, you will probably enjoy the fun and surprises in this album by the second or third time through.
