Free Music Review: One of the best film scores I have heard in years

I have always been a fan of this film. I love the fact that is based on a real even with characters who are larger than life but in fact at least somewhat based on real people. I was showing this movie to a friend when I started to notice just how amazing the music in the film actually is. Every song is a standard from the 40's and every one is beautifully and masterfully presented. Not only are we treated to Rosemary Clooney and Tony Bennett, but we get soulful renditions of classic songs by k.d. Lang, Kiana Krall and more. The soundtrack is flawless and evokes another time. Im a huge fan of this kind of music but even for the casual listener, its a great compilation. I highly recommend it!Free Music Review: An excellent musical selection.

I've always considered movie soundtracks a cheat for the musically uninformed with lukewarm opinions and limited repertoires, but this compilation of talent has converted me. From Joe Williams and Rosemary Clooney (Jazz gods) to Kevin Spacey (Who knew?), Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil holds its own as a balanced composite of talent and a suitable bow to Johnny Mercer's gifted songwriting. If you're very lucky, this soundtrack will introduce you to new artists, perhaps Cassandra Wilson, Diana Krall, or Kevin Mahogany. Or, if you're equally fortunate, it will redefine the talents of artists you've overlooked, such as Paula Cole and Alison Eastwood.

I originally purchased this CD because I heard Kevin Spacey cut a song on it. And am I ever glad I did! This is an CD for any age! It is beautiful and soothing; a must have for anyone who loves great, calm music while driving or even trying to fall asleep! Kevin's song is terrific, fun loving, etc.; he can even sing besides being the best actor around! Rosemary Clooney is an absolute doll and I cry everytime she sings! k.d. lang sang a great number; she sounds wonderful singing this type of music. I loved the movie, and I thought just as highly of it as the CD! Purchase it, you won't be sorry. Also makes a great gift!Free Music Review: This is an Absolutely Beautiful Album

I can not begin to tell you how much my girlfriend and I enjoy the music on the Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. It is an incredibly beautiful experience. Even Clint Eastwood and Kevin Spacey admirably perform a couple of Johnny Mercer's less demanding songs. "Skylark" by K. D. Lang will simply take your breath away. I am at this very moment listening to Tony Bennett's "I Wanna Be Around." This collection of songs should be on your shelf. Five stars? I wish I could give it more.

If you like classic ballad style jazz tunes, then this is a must for your collection - written by the late great Johnny Mercer, who won many Grammys and Oscars for his musical scores.
I was recently in Savannah, Georgia where he lived and where the infamous murder featured in the book and film Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil - which took place in his home - The Mercer House - at 429 Bull Street. It would have been great to have had this CD with me as I drove through that beautiful city. I shall return with music in hand.
