Free Music Review: Something In A New Direction
Hit: 5 Stars

Midtown didn't totally leave behind the punk-pop sensibilities with this cd but they did leave enough of it behind to lose some of the bandwagon fans. There are some truly amazing songs sprinkled in here (Empty Like the Ocean and Waiting for the News cover new territory). But you simply have to give them time to grow on you. And the lyrics here took an emo-unfriendly step towards not just singing about how your heart pines away for some girl. The lyrics are much deeper, edgier and force you to think a little bit more about some of the misgivings of complicated, adult relationships. The frenetic guitar work , great hooks and amazing harmonies are still here. They just grew up and seemingly put out the album THEY wanted to. The whole cd is quite a unique rock and roll statement that unfortunately not many people have heard. Give it a chance. Then give it more time. And you won't regret it.

These guys really put out a terrible disc here. There is no redeeming qualities to this at all, and I must say to anyone who, like me, loved their last CD, "Living Well is the Best Revenge," this is not for you. This is beyond selling out. It is an absolute disaster because they don't play instruments well enough to support this kind of material, and the entire performance sounds forced. The songs have no hooks except for "Give it Up," it is way overproduced, and the entire album lacks a clear definition. WHY do my favorite bands do this?? At least they could have made half an album like "Living Well" and experimented with the remaining tracks, but no. They "went for a more mature sound," like most other bands like them are now (and are rapidly going extinct.) Give it up, give it up, don't fall for the same things....About sums it up for me.

Free Music Review: forget what you know......about midtown
Hit: 5 Stars

once again, this is an example of a band rising to the next level due to evolving. this is the third album from the band, Midtown. i've been a fan of their music since their 2002 release "living well..." and i thought that cd was good, but not great. this cd however, is great perhaps even perfect. sure people will say this is pop/punk but it's really not. it's just a solid punk rock album, period. a few years ago it was make or break for midtown and they almost split prior to making this record. in the end, they all agreed to make a record that would break away from their pop/punk formula and they suceeded. everything about this album is more mature, smarter, better musicianship, and just better songs than their older stuff. if you're a huge fan of pop/punk and you loved their older stuff, chances are you probably won't accept this cd. it's very different but i promise if you give a chance you'll come to appreciate what a fantastic album this is. midtown is slated to release album #4 sometime this summer 06 and i think it's going to be huge. i mean REALLY huge. bottom line: hardcore midtown fans; enjoy...pop/punkers who salivated over "living well..." download or listen to some songs before you buy it.

Free Music Review: moving onto bigger things
Hit: 5 Stars

Ive been a midtown fan ever since and I always felt they had a lot to offer to modern punk fans. I can't say this cd is their best because theyve had a lot of classic songs already off of their other two albums, but this one definately stands out from the rest of their work. u may not like if u were looking for the same style from their earlier albums, but this shows that the band is growing and expanding their talents. a lot of energy (if not more so) and definately a lot more conviction in their lyrics. I love "Give it Up" and "Nothing Is Ever What it Seems"

Free Music Review: Oh man
Hit: 2 Stars

Well, Living Well is the Best Revenge was and is an awesome CD. I love it, and i have for over 3 years now. I was excited when i heard Midtown had a new CD coming out. So, it came out, i bought it, put it in my CD player. Man, i wasn't very impressed. The first actual song is way too catchy....it's a wonder it wasn't a "radio hit" for them. The CD overall was pretty mediocre. A lot of filler and just plain horrible songs. I was able to find 3 that stood out. "Empty Like the Ocean", "Nothing is Ever What it Seems", "Help Me Sleep". Those songs kick some major ass, and for that, i give the CD a 2. I'll be hesitant to buy their next CD.
