Free Music Review: Among the best new artists this year.

This is certainly a great year for new indie acts. First, we get Bat For Lashes and Fever Ray. The latest entry from Miike Snow is just as phenomenal as the formers albeit an entirely different beast. One thing apparent from all these releases is that the artists involved are not new to production and song writing. I know nothing of the history of the trio of Miike Snow but it is obvious from the production values that this is not their first rodeo.
"Silvia" demonstrates their keen sense of pace. It's a spacey, mid tempo gem and my personal favorite of the album. "Cult Logic" has to be the most melodic song from the album. I constantly find myself screaming "Can you feel it..." whenever the part arrives. "In Search Of..." is a play with electronics. It's epic. This song was one of my favorites immediately but when it played on my Zune at the gym I was mesmerized. The shifts from effects and melodies are genius. The dirty riff comes and I am locked in concentration then it disappears and a gorgeous bell effect comes on. It is electronics done to perfection--truly infectious. "Animal" is the song that drew me into this band. Here Miike Snow demonstrate creative songwriting and vocals. "Black & Blue" has a ridiculously groovy chorus. The piano melodies of "Burial" will permeate your eardrums and secure your attention. A similar affect comes from the bass melody of "Song For No One".
I normally write reviews for albums that cause me to gush with excitement. This album is helping me continue that trend. It is completely hypnotic and unrelenting. The singer does a great job with the vocals. I love falsetto vocals and he adds them sparingly which whets the appetite and satisfies at the same time. If I felt obliged to compare this band to any others out there right now it would be to MGMT albeit with an album with more than just 3 good tracks. I like them all here with the exception of "Faker" which is just too timid for me. Also, you could compare this band to Passion Pit albeit with much more diversity in their songs and approach. If those are the only two for comparison then consider Miike Snow the best of their kind.
