I first heard Mike Doughty on some music channel that is part of my digital cable. Once I realized that Busting Up a Starbucks and Looking at the World from the Bottom of a Well were by the same guy I invested in Haughty Melodic. To me, White Lexus is one of the greatest songs ever written. Overtime, it has become one of my favorite albums. Prior to, I had never heard of Soul Coughing. As fond as I am of Haughty Melodic I just can not get into Soul Coughing. Anyway, I've waited for more from Mike for a long time.
If you're like me and you loved Haughty Melodic, you are bound to at least like Golden Delicious. It's pretty much the same formula. Some gibberish, cool beats, some interesting sounds, and passionate lyrics. Most of Mike's songs are crystallized versions of thoughts I have had about myself, women I have loved, and emotions I have felt. HM and GD are like Rubber Soul and Revolver to me. Gradually, I think I will forget which songs are on each album and mentally merge the two.
Currently, It hasn't moved me the way Haughty Melodic does. Not saying it can't or won't. But after a masterpiece like HM, there is absolutely no shame in picking up where you left off.

Former Soul Coughing frontman Mike Doughty is a true multi-media artist: musician, songwriter, poet, playwright, photographer, and an avid, eloquent blogger. On this 2008 album, Doughty and Grammy-winning producer Dan Wilson worked with Doughty's touring band to craft a driven, organic sound around Mike's savvy, agile lyrical escapades. Lead track 'Fort Hood' is named for the U.S. army base that has suffered the greatest number of casualties in the Iraq War; the anthem was inspired by a visit to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. In less somber moments, 'Put It Down' is a hip-shaking Pop gem, and the fan favorite '27 Jennifers' was recorded with a live band for the first time.
